He said it's like that. One must traverse the defilements through meditation; if one does not traverse the defilements, mere recognition is not enough. One must arrive through experience in view. Mipham Rinpoche said: If one does not arrive through experience in view, then understanding is of no benefit. Therefore, traversing the defilements through meditation means killing the three secret enemies, destroying the four fearsome maras, and severing the precipice of the six realms. First, the three secret enemies are: external enemies, such as the four elements and obstructing forces; internal enemies, such as diseases and afflictions arising from the skandhas; and secret enemies, such as subtle and gross grasping. When one realizes that all of these are self-liberated, then the term "killed" is applied. Second, the four fearsome maras are: the Mara of the Lord of Death, which causes one to die involuntarily. One must gain mastery over deathless life, like Gyalsé Pema and Vimala. The three poisons of affliction are the Mara of Affliction. One must realize that the five poisons are the nature of the five wisdoms. The Mara of the Skandhas, which constantly takes up existence. In the state of ordinary beings, whatever one feels does not transcend suffering, so one must realize the wisdom of great bliss. The Mara of the Sons of Gods, which binds one to the realm of samsara. One must know, like Jetsun Mila, that after abandoning samsara, good realization and fame are also binding. All of these must appear as the pure and vast phenomena of existence, like mantra. Like sutra, one must train the mind to see everything as an unreal dream. The precipice of the six realms are: gods, demi-gods, humans, animals, hungry ghosts, and hell beings. It is said that ordinary beings, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, are places of birth. If one possesses the key points of the four perfections of the generation stage, then all the precipices will be severed. The place of birth is self-liberated, the cause of birth is self-liberated, and one must know the nature of the four liberations. The Four Life Stakes are: The great expanse of the Dharmadhatu pervades all of samsara and nirvana. Its nature, the spontaneously accomplished wisdom, is the original, indestructible vajra life. Once one gains confidence in this, one gains the life of all of samsara and nirvana at once. The life that transcends the world. After meditating on the Four Life Stakes, the mind-essence of the deities, such as the Five Dhyani Buddhas, emanates, and the deities and oneself

Blending inseparably with the mother, seizing the life-essence of the eight classes of gods and demons who have not transcended the world, subjugating them and compelling them to work, and seizing the life-force of enemies and obstructors through the fierce ritual of mantras, making it the nourishment for my life. All the gods and demons of appearance and existence, if one recognizes them as one's own mind, then there is no need to seize their life-essence from the outside. Thus it is said. First, seize the life-essence encompassed by the duality of grasping and clinging in one's own mind-stream, and it is necessary to pass into sorrowless nirvana without any remainder of the aggregates. Seize the life-essence of the wisdom deities, blending the deities and one's own mind inseparably, and erect them as the body of the victorious ones of the three kayas. Seize the life-essence of the Dharma-protecting guardians, employing them as servants and compelling them to work. Seize the life-essence of oath-breaking enemies and demons, and it is necessary to slay the oath-breakers who harm the teachings and sentient beings. If one does not seize the stronghold of the view of primordial purity, there is no time to be liberated from the signs of touching the root. If one does not know how to traverse the path of spontaneously accomplished meditation, one will not gain mastery over the mandala of the deities of appearance and existence. If one does not possess confidence in the key points of life-force and longevity, then activities will not be spontaneously accomplished, it is said. The unchanging nail of intention is: all phenomena encompassed by appearance and existence, samsara and nirvana, are gathered into the expanse of a single dharmata, and the pure body and realms of the Buddhas, the impure aggregates, elements, and sense-bases of sentient beings, all are like the appearance of a single dream, being primordially the great mandala of self-appearing wisdom, without needing to be purified or transformed, its nature of liberation being the state of indivisible awareness and emptiness, from which arise beings with form and without form. Being primordially liberated and not liberated by others, being liberated as the ground perfected, is the Dharmakaya. The nail of the deity of samadhi is: indivisible awareness and emptiness, and all that arises from it, beings with form and without form, all appearances not transcending the mandala of self-appearing wisdom, being primordially in the form of main figures and retinues and assemblies, therefore the body of the victorious ones of appearance and emptiness is like the moon in water. The nail of the heart-essence mantra is: all sounds, not a single sound not being encompassed by vowels and consonants, therefore the emptiness of sound like an echo in a valley, that itself being the ultimate supreme speech of the great inexpressible expression, abiding in the speech of individuals in the form of main figures and retinues, is the victorious one of the emptiness of sound.
