From the distinctions, it is said, "Virtuous and evil images do not follow size." As it is said. The companions for practicing the sacred Dharma are the four thoughts that turn the mind. Among them, the first three are "Guru Knows." Although there are many ways to explain them by combining them with the three bodies, the three views, meditations, and actions, here they are explained in connection with the nature of the vows of individual liberation, the Bodhisattva, and the mantra. First, the first "Guru Knows" is: This place of the three realms of samsara is inherently the nature of suffering, the wheel of suffering, and the great ocean of suffering. Knowing that all sentient beings, self and others, are like this, thinking "Guru Knows (བླ༷་མ༷་མཁྱེན༷, lā ma khyen, guru know, Guru Knows)," pray for the arising of the renunciation of samsara, the determination to be free, in the minds of all sentient beings, self and others. Second: All sentient beings, parents, born in that place of samsara, are pitifully wandering around helplessly due to the power of ignorance and delusion. Thinking "Guru Knows (བླ༷་མ༷་མཁྱེན༷, lā ma khyen, guru know, Guru Knows)," pray for the arising of the altruistic Bodhicitta, which seeks the benefit of others, in the minds of all sentient beings, self and others, so that the suffering of those sentient beings and its causes and effects may be separated and they may attain liberation and lasting happiness. Third: All these phenomena of outer and inner vessels and contents, in the ultimate reality of the way things are, are inherently the inexhaustible adornment wheel of the body, speech, and mind of the Victorious Ones, the deities, mantras, and Dharma nature, which have never gone beyond. However, in the conventional appearance, sentient beings are deluded by sudden bewilderment, appearing as impure and ordinary. They are attached to what appears, and cling to what they are attached to. Therefore, thinking "Guru, Three Jewels, You Know (བླ༷་མ༷་དཀོ༷ན་མཆོ༷ག་གསུ༷མ་པོ༷་ཁྱེ༷ད་མཁྱེ༷ན་ནོ༷་, lā ma dkon mchog gsum po khyed khyen no, guru three jewels you know, Guru, Three Jewels, You Know)," pray for the arising of the pure vision of the pure appearance of existence and non-existence in the minds of all sentient beings, self and others. Alternatively, it is also permissible to think: Bless the arising of renunciation, Bodhicitta, and pure vision in the minds of all sentient beings, self and others. The actual four thoughts that turn the mind are: the four things to turn the mind from, and the four antidotes that turn the mind. The first four are: the evil mind that does not accomplish the great and lasting purpose, but wastes this precious human body with leisure and opportunity in vain, and has no desire to take its essence; knowing that everyone will die, but thinking that one will not die.

Those evil thoughts that are bound by the stubborn clinging to permanence, without even a moment's thought of death; those evil thoughts that have no weariness or aversion to the suffering from the peak of existence to the Avici hell, but instead cling and are attached to this small, temporary happiness; those evil thoughts that do not understand the law of karma at all, or even if they do, are unable to properly engage in acceptance and rejection due to doubt—know that these are obstacles to Dharma and the root of demons. Second, the four antidotes are: Considering the precious human body with eight freedoms and ten endowments, and thinking about how difficult it is to obtain through the three aspects of example, number, and essence, this kind of body is only obtained this once. Therefore, repeatedly cultivate the thought, "I must strive to accomplish great things and obtain ultimate benefit." Thinking about the impermanence of all phenomena, both internal and external, know that the so-called death may come at any time, and there is no certainty about the causes of death. Even between breaths, it is impossible to know which will come first, this life or the next, so generate the thought, "I must strive to prepare for the next life." No matter where one is born in the three realms of samsara, one will experience various different karmic appearances of sentient beings, such as heat and cold, hunger and thirst, cutting and killing, which are beyond the power of thought. However, take into your own mind all the sufferings of samsara that you have seen and heard, along with their causes and effects, and repeatedly generate renunciation. Whatever virtuous or non-virtuous actions are performed, the resulting happiness or suffering will definitely appear in that way, and there will never be deception. As it is said in the Sutra on the Establishment of Mindfulness, "Fire may become cold, wind may be bound by a rope, the sun and moon may fall to the earth, but the result of karma will never deceive." Therefore, generate firm faith in cause and effect, and without being ignorant of what to accept and reject, properly engage in acceptance and rejection. This is a Dharma that should never be forgotten. The ultimate result, the state of liberation and omniscience, is the result of accumulating the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, and is obtained from the perfection of abandonment and realization. Therefore, do not let the mind go astray, but rely well on a qualified guru through the three ways of pleasing the guru, and pray to be taken care of by the hook of compassion, so that the profound instructions of ripening and liberation may be integrated into your own mind.
