Not to defile the property of the wise, and not to drink alcohol to intoxication; 5. Not to engage in sexual misconduct with the consort of a Vajra brother; 6. Not to rely on a consort with a bad reputation; 7. Not to rely on samaya substances that lack the proper qualities; 8. Not to disparage the qualities of the wise; 9. Not to reveal secret teachings to those who are not suitable vessels; 10. Not to abandon a consort who possesses the signs and a disciple who is a suitable vessel; 11. Not to separate the meaning of bliss and emptiness and the symbols of father (father tantra deity) and mother (mother tantra deity); 12. Not to engage in internal strife with fellow practitioners, even in jest; 13. Not to use leftovers that have been used by others; 14. Not to be arrogant about the seat of the Lama; 15. Not to interrupt retreat for oneself or others; 16. Not to let the mind be controlled by sinking or excitement in meditation; 17. Not to interrupt recitation and rituals with words; 18. Not to transgress the mudras of empowerment and not to forget the symbols; 19. Not to disturb the mandala of yogis and not to repel the power of beings; 20. Not to diminish the respect for the Guru. These are the root downfalls. The first of the fourteen root downfalls is: repeatedly disparaging the Guru, and being pleased by it, not regretting it, and not correcting it. The second is: being one of the precepts of the three vows spoken by the Buddha, knowingly violating it, having the intention of contempt. The third is: being a Vajra brother who has received empowerment, possessing the vows of mantra, recognizing this, being motivated by hatred and speaking of his faults, and understanding the meaning after hearing what is said. The fourth is: focusing on any sentient being and generating the thought, "May this (being) be separated from all happiness," thereby abandoning loving-kindness. The fifth is: thinking, "I cannot accomplish enlightenment for the benefit of limitless sentient beings," thereby abandoning aspirational bodhicitta. The sixth is: disparaging or refuting one's own school of Secret Mantra and the school of others, the Paramita Vehicle, that is, these two teachings of the Buddha. The seventh is: for sentient beings who are not yet mature, that is, those who have not been made suitable through empowerment, also called those without fortune. Regarding this, the Black Practitioner said: Immaturity in terms of the vessel refers to those with wrong views. Immaturity in terms of the ritual refers to those who have not received the vase empowerment. Immaturity in terms of the completion of the ritual refers to the secret and wisdom jnana.

Immaturity due to not having obtained it. Immaturity due to violation means that fundamental downfalls, etc., have occurred but have not been remedied. Immaturity due to fear of the profound means not having obtained the suchness of the fourth empowerment, thus explaining five types of immaturity. If one proclaims secrets to such individuals. The eighth is: Since it is said that the aggregates are the nature of the five Buddhas, if one afflicts one's own aggregates with the intention of causing them to deteriorate, through any means of affliction, thereby causing suffering. The ninth is: To doubt profound emptiness, that is, to abandon it out of disbelief. The tenth is: To befriend a malicious person and cherish them with body and speech. This is a downfall of befriending such a person, and since there is no ability to liberate, it is not shown as a root downfall unless manifest action is taken. The eleventh is: In ultimate truth, to conceptualize the characteristic of names, etc., on emptiness itself, which is the nature of all phenomena that are devoid of all elaborations such as names. On this, Krishnacharya explains: To argue about right and wrong regarding the wisdom of self-nature, that is, the wisdom that realizes all phenomena are devoid of names, words, letters, symbols, and expressions, or to conceptualize existence and non-existence, or to be misled by the words and reasoning of others, thereby causing doubt. In "A Sheaf of Accomplishments," it says: If one has the view of the selflessness of phenomena but does not maintain it, and a day passes, it is the eleventh root downfall. The twelfth is: Regarding the instructions that one's own guru has distributed to disciples, if one slanders them to someone with great faith, with the intention of reversing their aspiration. The thirteenth is: When properly performing a tsok khor, or a hero's feast, or a heroine's feast, if one refuses to accept the samaya substances offered, such as the five meats, with an impure thought or doubt. The fourteenth is: To denigrate Vajravarahi and other transcendent beings who hold the form of women, and any woman who possesses the characteristics of a woman. Wisdom is the wisdom of great bliss, and nature here means the cause of arising, because it is said in the sutras that she is the agent who generates that wisdom for the yogi. If one denigrates those objects. In short, my suchness is: The cause for accomplishing the ultimate deity, mantra, and wisdom, residing inseparably in the continuum. Because the power of the habitual patterns of illusory appearances has increased since beginningless time, it is not pure.
