Regarding the method of cutting through appearances and clinging at this time, Rinpoche said to Tertön Chen: For example, when the sun is obscured by clouds, although it possesses light and heat, due to the obscuring clouds, the rays of light do not appear to be warm. When it is free from clouds, all the rays of light actually appear to be warm. However, this is not because it was originally without heat and has newly become warm; it is merely a clear manifestation in terms of convention. Similarly, when the very clear awareness of the ground of appearance is obscured by the sudden clouds of the eight aggregates, the nature of all minds does not appear as primordial wisdom, but instead appears and is clung to as impure self-grasping. When, relying on the guru's instructions, the clear light in the heart awakens and manifests, all minds appear as pure clear light, which is like going to the Isle of Gold. At this time, all that appears manifests as pure wisdom, which is not that it was originally not wisdom and has newly become wisdom, but rather the way things are, the reality itself, is revealed. The power of awakened awareness causes all that appears to manifest as wisdom. Since phenomena also appear within the realm of wisdom, there is no impurity to be removed from phenomena; rather, it is realized through experience that everything is purely pure. Clinging to appearances is merely the appearance of mind and self-grasping as delusion and conceptual thought when one is unrestrained in the post-attainment state; there is nothing else besides this. It is merely a matter of recognizing or not recognizing, of awareness being awakened or not awakened. It was said. Mipham Rinpoche said: The eight consciousness aggregates, which are the subject, and their nature, the wisdom of the dharmata, these two are neither one nor different, and should not be asserted as either. In the *Sandhinirmocana Sutra* it says: 'The realm of formations and the characteristics of ultimate reality are of a nature that is inseparable from one and different. Those who conceive of them as one or different have engaged in improper views.' Longchen Rabjam also said similarly. Therefore, conventionally, these two are not one, because merely realizing the mind does not mean realizing the wisdom of the dharmata of the mind, and because of the subject and the dharmata, and so on. Ultimately, they are not different, because the nature of the mind is wisdom. When wisdom is realized, the mind cannot be seen as different from it, and when wisdom is realized, the mind appears as self-liberated, and so on. It is said. Regarding this, Lama Jikme Ö...

According to your oral tradition and unique oral teachings, the appearance of wisdom's self-arising is that it abides within a single pure mandala, because impure appearances are not observed within its appearances. Furthermore, in the oral tradition of Paltrul Rinpoche, it is said: This appearance is a deity, because it is the self-appearance of wisdom. The deity in this context is the wisdom of primordial purity, spontaneous accomplishment, and union. It should be understood that this deity is the aspect of wisdom's self-appearance that arises in the form of the eight consciousnesses. In the Dzogchen tradition, the nature of all appearances—the uncompounded rig-empty (awareness-emptiness)—is first recognized as the essence of the fully pure deity of fruition. Secondly, one trains in the method of perfecting skill through repeated cultivation. Finally, when stability is attained, through the power of meditation, appearances are accomplished or arise as deities. Appearances are not accomplished as deities through many explanations. First, separating mind and awareness and cultivating awareness alone is the gateway to accomplishing appearances as deities. Secondly, when the illusion of how things appear is slightly reversed, and mind and awareness are seen as inseparable like water and waves, and the clinging to mind and awareness is loosened, there is no need to affirm or negate the arising of skill. When the eagle of awareness soars in the vast and comfortable sky of the expanse, it is also the beginning of accomplishing appearances as deities. Finally, when ultimate stability is attained, just as one cannot find ordinary earth and stones even if one searches in the Golden Land (Shambhala), not only is mind and awareness realized like water and waves, but appearances and mind are also realized in the same way, and the nature of reality and the way things appear merge like mother and child. When the illusion of how things appear is exhausted in the expanse, it is the ultimate stage of accomplishing appearances as deities on the path of learning. Finally, when awareness dissolves into the expanse, the radiance of awareness ripens into bodies and pure lands, and the power of awareness is liberated into omniscient wisdom, the accomplishment of appearances as deities is unsurpassed. Thus it is said. In the notes it is written: The appearance of a variegated rope as a snake is such that it is originally empty of the snake as it appears, because due to causes such as your unclear object, it is merely an appearance of grasping the basis of appearance—the rope—as a snake. The meaning is that the impure aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are the object of wrong perception and delusion are originally or from the beginning empty of being established as they appear, but rather arise from the appearance of your innate wisdom.
