That, it never ceases, and its essence is emptiness, so there are no objects or characteristics. But it is not merely emptiness, but the self-luminous light of no characteristics. We admit that, due to the obscurations not being exhausted, the Sugata-garbha in the mindstream of sentient beings does not manifest the ten powers of wisdom. However, it is not that it is not present in that realm of the qualities of the unsurpassed Dharma, but because there are obscurations that prevent it from manifesting. If the essence of the element itself is not inherently endowed with the qualities of the Buddha, then even if such an element exists, it will not become the seed of Buddhahood, just like mere emptiness. Therefore, the luminous Dharmadhatu, or self-born wisdom, or the luminous innate mind, or the Tathagatagarbha, these are all the same meaning. This is the seed of Buddhahood. When it exists in a continuum with obscurations, it is the cause for becoming a Buddha, and when one becomes a Buddha, it will manifest. Although one can become a Buddha, in the unconditioned Dharma nature, there is no difference between before and after, and the state does not change, because the essence is immutable. In appearance, it can be said that the state has changed. Because it has been shown that such a Buddha-seed exists, one can avoid the five faults and never regress from unsurpassed Bodhi. These five faults arise from not having heard that the Sugata-garbha exists in all sentient beings. This is the key to achieving the ultimate One Vehicle, and it is also the key to the Vajrayana's mind itself being primordially enlightened. Thus it is said. Like clouds, like dreams, like illusions, that and that, all knowable things are empty. Having said this, why then do the Buddhas say that sentient beings have the essence of the Tathagata? Discouragement, contempt for inferior sentient beings, false clinging to reality, and denigration of the true Dharma, for the sake of abandoning these five faults, it is said that sentient beings possess the Tathagatagarbha. The meaning of this is, in the annotations of Je Mipham Rinpoche: Like clouds that are unstable and without inherent existence, like dreams that are experienced but without inherent existence, like illusions that appear but without inherent existence, as stated in the Extensive Mother Sutra, the Medium Length Prajnaparamita Sutra, etc., that and that, all knowable things are empty. Having said this, in the final turning of the wheel, why do the Buddhas say that the continuum of sentient beings has the Tathagatagarbha that is primordially spontaneously accomplished?

So, doesn't this contradict the statements of 'existence' and 'non-existence'? Also, if this realm (referring to the Tathagatagarbha) is difficult for even noble beings to realize, what is the need to explain it to children? This is the answer to those questions. These two are not contradictory. The previous statement that all dharmas from form to omniscience have no reality is explained from the aspect of the emptiness of the essence of the dharmadhatu. And the statement here that the Tathagatagarbha exists is not saying that its essence is truly existent, but is explained from the aspect of the clarity of the nature of awareness and wisdom. Therefore, these two are not contradictory, but rather help each other and can be united. Moreover, it is taught for five special necessities. What are the five? For oneself, the obstacle to generating faith is that if one does not know that the ultimate truth of the dharmadhatu exists within oneself, one will think that one cannot achieve enlightenment and become discouraged (Sems zhum pa, Tibetan; discouraged, literal meaning in Chinese), as well as the fault of not being interested in the path. For guiding others, the obstacle is that if one does not know that the Tathagatagarbha exists in the minds of other beings, one will think that these beings are inferior and despise (Dman la brnyas pa, Tibetan; inferior, despise, literal meaning in Chinese) them, resulting in the fault of disrespect. For realizing the wisdom of true reality, the obstacle is that if one does not know that oneself and others all have the Tathagatagarbha, one will cling to false and temporary defilements as if they exist in the dharmadhatu, which originally does not exist, thus resulting in incorrect clinging (Yang dag min par 'dzin pa'i nyes pa, Tibetan; the fault of clinging incorrectly, literal meaning in Chinese). Moreover, for the qualities that are inseparable from the dharmadhatu, one will think that they exist but do not exist, thus resulting in the fault of slandering the true Dharma (Yang dag chos la skur pa 'debs pa'i nyes pa, Tibetan; the fault of slandering the true Dharma, literal meaning in Chinese). For realizing the equality of self and others, the obstacle is that if one does not know that the nature of self and others is equal to the dharmadhatu, it will increase the fault of clinging to self (Bdag la chags pa, Tibetan; clinging to self, literal meaning in Chinese). In short, these five faults exist in whomsoever, and it is taught to enable these people to eliminate these faults. That's what was said. Rinpoche said to the great treasure revealer Lama: The meaning of being discouraged, etc., is: I also have the nature of the Tathagatagarbha, the clear light of awareness. If I learn the methods of purifying temporary defilements, I will surely be able to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, thus eliminating discouragement (the fault of).1. Those beings who are suppressed by evil deeds and great sins, and whose behavior is scattered and unrestrained, also dwell in the pure and luminous essence from the beginning, so they will surely become Buddhas, thus eliminating the contempt for inferior beings (the fault of).2. For the separable and temporary mind, ultimately...
