Sa! The five non-conceptual sense consciousnesses, and the extremely non-conceptual alaya consciousness. There are eight consciousnesses together with mental factors. Even if you do not know the mental factors in detail, you must understand how to recognize the arising of conceptual thoughts in the eight consciousnesses. If you understand this, you will know the distracted state of mind. The five sense consciousnesses are merely those that see forms, hear sounds, smell odors, taste flavors, and experience bodily sensations of hot and cold. They cannot discriminate between good and bad. Even through hearing, there is liberation. The mind consciousness that distinguishes beauty and ugliness, and the afflicted mind that gives rise to attachment, etc., are the two. The sense consciousnesses and the alaya consciousness are non-conceptual. Ah la! This self-grasping afflicted mind focuses on the alaya as its object, and sometimes manifests as self-grasping. In other treatises, it is said that the afflicted mind looks inward, focuses on the alaya as its object, manifests as self-grasping, and is associated with the nine all-pervasive mental factors. Mipham Rinpoche said so. Apart from the alaya, it is necessary to recognize it from the stages of the seven consciousnesses. It is said that it can be recognized when the alaya, the secret sky, is introduced. If asked what the alaya is like? Oh ya, the so-called alaya, its nature is non-conceptual, without deliberation, its object is the vast container and its contents, and its appearance does not distinguish the subtle differences of external objects. It is neither attached to the outside, nor cultivated inside, nor placed in the middle, nor sunk downwards, nor climbed upwards. It seems that it has not been contaminated by conceptual thoughts, and it is a state of non-conceptual emptiness. The alaya consciousness is a clear and unwavering state. You don't need to ask me. If you are not a yogi, you will not be able to reach that state. Look to see if you can recognize the self and self-grasping in it. That is very important. Among the four alayas, the so-called true meaning alaya is the essence of the Sugata-garbha. It is said in the scriptures: The alaya is inseparable from the Dharmakaya self. And the alaya, which is the habit of various obscurations, its nature is non-conceptual, its appearance is clear and aware, and it is the basis of delusion of the three realms of samsara. Even if you do not understand the four alayas, you must understand these two. Kunkhyen Longchenpa's dakini Yangtik also recognizes the alaya.

The method of abiding. Running and running on a vast plain, when tired, if one can rest, with an indescribable force, the thoughts temporarily cease, and the empty state that remains is the Alaya. On top of this, a slight clarity appears, which is the awareness of the Alaya. This is how it manifests through the power of effort. These two are of the same essence, so when one reaches the Alaya through the power of the steps of the path, it is not certain which aspect, emptiness or clarity, will manifest due to the power of their respective realms. Mipham Rinpoche said: The knower, ah! Knowing what, this knowing is also not there. The listener, ah! Hearing what, this hearing is also not there. Some lamas identify this as abandonment and non-prediction, while others identify it as ignorance, but in reality, it is the Alaya. Although this is not the actual basis of meditation, the lama said that beginners cannot proceed without relying on this. This is not the lama's teaching. When the mind's eight consciousness aggregates are recognized, if a plan remains after that, then, as the sutras say, this is the Tathagatagarbha; as the tantras say, this is the clear light secret sky. The so-called clear is the name for being without defilement. The so-called bright is the name for not being obscured by darkness. This is not the clear light. It is complete when it is not a nine-headed thunderbolt. Otherwise, one must recognize another clear light. When it is said that the basis is the sky, it refers to this. This is the mind's inherent awareness. Even in the continuum of those evil spirits in the charnel ground who eat corpses, drink blood, and kill for a living, it is there, but it is not recognized. When distinguishing between mind and wisdom, if you turn inward and observe your own awareness, do not turn outward and look like a bear writing. The place with more meat, the thickest skin is inside. Understood! Know yourself. The so-called natural manifestation must also know how to bring it above the secret sky. Padmasambhava asked: Is the sky the basis? Alaya, haven't you closed your eyes? It is not like the ignorant, empty sky, and when you finally become a Buddha, the play of body and wisdom is boundless, don't you know? If the outer sky is the basis, then...
