Transcriptions of the Oral Instructions of Chak Kong Dudjom Rinpoche Transcriptions of the Oral Instructions of Chak Kong Dudjom Rinpoche The oral instructions of the accomplished Chak Kong Tertön Rinpoche, Tragtung Dudjom Dorje, the peerless and glorious Lama Yukhok Jawö Chöying Rangdröl Rinpoche, are presented here. The oral instructions of the accomplished Tertön Lama (of the private treasure), the peerless Lama Rinpoche (Yukhok Jawö), were given with joy, and written down word for word for fear of forgetting. When Gyalmo Yungdrung Tseten asked the meaning of "Nang-Jang" (Purification of Appearances), he said: "The outer and inner world of beings and environments, along with the delusions that arise from mistaken appearances, must be purified into the union of appearance and emptiness. Because this is the method of purification, it is called Nang-Jang." The beginning and end of Nang-Jang must be covered by the meaning of this name. From the top of "Self-nature," one must grasp the essential point of the view of Nang-Jang. "Self-nature" refers to all phenomena encompassed by the three paths of samsara, nirvana, and the path, whose self-nature or reality is emptiness. Realizing this destroys the clinging to permanence and the extreme of permanence. However, emptiness is not like the aftermath of something burned to ashes, a nihilistic view. From the aspect of the unobstructed appearance from the emptiness of the self-nature of all phenomena encompassed by the three paths of samsara, nirvana, and the path, there is nothing that does not exist, thus destroying the extreme of nihilism and clinging to nihilism. If we explain the three paths of samsara, nirvana, and the path separately, the phenomena of samsara are the nature of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases; the appearances of the yogic path are shamatha-vipassana and post-meditation; the phenomena of the result, the three secrets of body, wisdom, and mind, the inexhaustible wheel of ornaments, are all empty in essence, thus destroying the extreme of permanence and clinging to permanence. Oh yeah! Because it is the essential point of emptiness, appearances arise unceasingly, thus destroying the extreme of nihilism and clinging to nihilism. Ah lay! If we apply these to something like earth, when we say that the self-nature of earth is emptiness, it does not mean that this earth has disappeared. If this earth disappeared, there would be nothing to call the emptiness of earth. The so-called emptiness of earth is not like a desolate emptiness like the aftermath of something burned to ashes (gesturing by striking the ground), it cannot be understood as appearance-emptiness and emptiness-appearance, that is a nihilistic view. Ah lay, white one.

Oh, if it were not for the eastern Jambudvipa, then all sentient beings hold this earth to be a single, true whole. If one knows that its essence or nature is not permanent, stable, and truly existent, but is caused by conditions and has a fabricated nature, then one can destroy the clinging to permanence and the extreme of permanence, which holds the earth's nature to be a single, true whole. If one does not understand anything, then all the dharmas of the three paths of samsara, nirvana, and the path are born from causes and conditions, and if one only realizes that they are of a fabricated nature, then they will be close to the side of non-existence, which will benefit us. If this appearance of earth exists, then both earth and the emptiness of earth cannot be integrated into union. The sign that the emptiness of earth is not useless is that when it is said that emptiness appears as earth, ah, the dharma or nature of earth, emptiness, as the subject, the unobstructed appearance of appearing as earth, even if covered by the hand of the Buddha, cannot be stopped. Such appearance-emptiness union is not understood as easily as putting fingers side by side. Ah, the essence of whatever appears is emptiness, and from this nature of emptiness, appearances arise unceasingly, one must know this path of appearance-emptiness union. Ah, all of you, do not turn things upside down, open your eyes wide, and do not cling to stone carvings like those old women. Without relying on the path of union, one will not attain the ultimate fruit. When it is said like that, shouldn't one think about it? Oh ya, all these appearing dharmas, as explained below in the context of the two selflessnesses, after recognizing them separately, whatever appears and whatever is seen, not only should one abide in appearance-emptiness union, but also in the post-meditation state, one should be able to clearly manifest them, until that day comes, one should meditate during the day and contemplate at night. This is the common path of sutra and tantra, so listening to this does not require empowerment, one can say that. Ten or more examples of illusion, anyone, male, female, old, or young, can listen to them. Because the way appearances arise from emptiness is like the eight examples of illusion below, it can be combined and explained here. Above that, there is only the name of Dzogchen. Below that, even quoting some scriptures is allowed, they said. The dakinis do it like that, they said. Up to this point, one can explain. All of you.
