It is not accepted to think of "self-knowing self-illumination" as in the Yogacara-Cittamatra school. Because there is no outer or inner, it is not established as the mind of the inner. Because there is no own-being, it is not established as merely one's own awareness. Because there has never been grasping and being grasped, it is not established as being inseparable from those two. Because it is not in the realm of sensory awareness, it is not established as the absence of both experiences. Because there is no mind and mental factors, it is not established as one's own mind. Because there is no clarity or non-clarity, it is not established as self-illumination. Because it transcends awareness and non-awareness, it cannot even be designated as mere awareness. This is called the Great Perfection, free from extremes. Although it is spoken of as an expression of meaning, self-arisen wisdom, the mind of enlightenment, Dharmakaya, the Great Perfection of Spontaneous Presence, and naked self-illuminating awareness, these are merely designations for the sake of understanding. One must realize that its own nature is the Great Inexpressible. If it is not like that, but one clings to the meaning of the name, then one will not find a difference from the self-knowing self-illumination and the non-duality of grasping and being grasped of the Cittamatra school. Here, those who have not trained their intelligence and want to babble about this, because they hold those two as one, they say with manifest pride, "We know this self-knowing!" That is all they are saying. Thus it was said. Furthermore, because the five aggregates abide as the wisdom of awareness, the Sugata-garbha pervades all beings. Thus it is said. One's own body is the Vajra Buddha itself. The Buddha dwells in one's own body. There is no need to seek the Buddha from elsewhere. Thus it is said. That is, the very wisdom of awareness, because it appears as the wisdom of awareness in that very object, the body of Vairochana is self-arisen, so there is no need to seek it from elsewhere. Because the essence of the Vajra family is immutable, it is not moved by conceptual thought. Therefore, awareness itself arises as the immutable body of Vajra. Furthermore, from that very wisdom of awareness, phenomena such as the appearance of decline and increase, and the immeasurable increase of qualities arise. Therefore, it is self-arisen as Ratnasambhava. Furthermore, because the clarity of awareness appears as infinite rays of light, it is self-arisen as Amitabha, Infinite Light. Furthermore, because awareness-wisdom itself exists in the essence of wisdom, and if one practices it, it will definitely be accomplished, it is self-arisen as Amoghasiddhi. Thus, the yogi of the Great Perfection does not need to seek and meditate on the Yidam deity from elsewhere; it is a disease of severance.
