That which is without is the very wisdom of non-duality. It is the stainless Suchness, but in the state of remainder, because there is a slight trace of latent impurity, it appears as delusion, seeing aging and sickness, etc. It is said that the impurity of the present mind, where affliction and wisdom are mixed, is removed, and the pure wisdom without remainder is manifested. This is their view, as stated in the Treasury of the Supreme Vehicle. The Mind-Only school asserts that external objects do not exist, but are one's own mind. According to the proponents of true aspects, the mind is considered to be truly existent as it appears. According to the proponents of false aspects, the appearance and the mind are considered to be a false appearance of delusion. The Mind-Only school not only asserts the absence of self of persons, but also the absence of self of phenomena, being empty of both grasper and grasped, but not empty of non-dual awareness, therefore asserting other-emptiness. The Madhyamaka school asserts that all phenomena are empty of self-nature. (༈) In the commentary on Resting the Mind Itself, the Great Chariot, it says: Even if the mind knows in the first moment, if the subsequent is not connected by thought, karma will not be accumulated, as all the lords of yoga assert. As it is said in the Doha of Toktsepa: The six consciousnesses know the appearance of the object, uncorrupted by grasping, that alone. Without karma, there is no ripening. Like the sky, seeing without impurity. And as it is said in Dzogchen: When the five sense consciousnesses are clear, if the mind does not engage in clinging and thought, that itself is the intention of the Buddhas. And as it is said in the Root Tantra of Sound Transcendence: The meditation that is not scattered is the clarity of the sense gates. And as the venerable Saraha said: Having completely abandoned thought and what is to be thought, one should abide in the manner of a thoughtless child. And as the great accomplished Shavaripa said: The wind is not held, the mind is not bound, let uncorrected awareness abide like a child. Although sound and meaning may be mixed in the continuum of a child, there is no clinging to mixing. It is exemplified by a newborn infant who does not know how to engage in speculation. The way these consciousnesses accumulate karma is: The Omniscient Great One said: Coarse attachment and aversion cause the desire for virtue and vice, the habits of action rely on the alaya. Non-conceptual clear appearance becomes the action of form, non-conceptual one-pointedness relies on the habits of the formless realm. The nature of samsara is two temporary obscurations, which always closely depend.
