Widely known in the Snowy Land are the great masters of Oddiyana, Padmasambhava and Vimalamitra. Among them, Padmasambhava's teachings, primarily the Dakini Heart Essence, mainly expound the views of liberation, the afterlife, and so on. Vimalamitra's collected essential instructions are called the "Profound Four Sections," which are said to be like the heart essence of the Secret Heart Essence: the first is the Golden Script Section, the second is the Copper Script Section, the third is the Conch Script Section, and the fourth is the Turquoise Script Section. It is said that the Small Script Section belongs to the Copper Script Section. In the commentary on the twelfth chapter of the Wish-Fulfilling Treasury, when discussing the doctrines of the heretics, there are seven beliefs regarding meditative contemplation: The Purva school believes that one should meditate on a state where even conventional truth does not exist; the Samkhya school believes that one should meditate on the emptiness where transformations have ceased; the Solar school believes that one should meditate on the emptiness of abandoning appearances; the Jayadhara school believes that one should regard the six consciousnesses and their objects as conditions and meditate single-mindedly on non-discrimination; the Vaisheshika school believes that one should regard memory as a fault and meditate single-mindedly on non-memory; the Shanti school believes that one should regard everything as mind and meditate without distraction from the nature of mind; the Vedic school believes that one should abandon happiness and suffering, discrimination and non-discrimination, and meditate like the sky. The difference between the alaya and the dharmakaya is that the alaya can be divided into four types: the alaya of essential meaning, the alaya of functional meaning, the alaya of various habitual tendencies, and the alaya of the habitual body. However, in general, Mipham Rinpoche believes that the alaya of essential meaning is the tathagatagarbha, the basis of all uncontaminated dharmas; the alaya of samsara is the basis of all contaminated dharmas, hence it is called alaya. So, what is the nature of this samsaric alaya with various habitual tendencies? It is the basis from which countless consciousnesses arise, the consciousness does not lean to any side, it takes the vast container and its contents as its object, it does not distinguish the subtle differences of the object, and in its nature, the waves of coarse discrimination are calmed, it is held by the samadhi of the formless realm in a state like a peaceful ocean; its nature is clear consciousness without discrimination, held by the form realm. It is the one that holds the habitual tendencies of the previous consciousnesses and becomes the basis of the later consciousnesses. Again,

From the vast expanse of space, where is the non-conceptual one-pointedness, the unlabelled? Luminous and merely awareness, without conceptual thought. Thus and so forth it is said. In the Yangti of the Dakinis it says: That also, to illustrate with a partial example, like when a person rests, for a moment consciousness abides in a non-conceptual, unlabelled state, that is the alaya. From that, for a moment the field of appearance is unceasing, luminously clear, yet there is no grasping involved, therefore that state of luminosity without conceptuality is said to be the appearance of the alaya consciousness. When that very Dharmakaya of indivisible awareness and emptiness, which transcends such an alaya, is recognized and one abides in that state, from the innate mind, the indivisibility of space and awareness, in that state of self-knowing by each individually, since there is no changing mind that grasps various habitual tendencies, how can there be alaya consciousness? Since there is not even a little bit of the objects of the six external aggregates, the mind that grasps to an inner self, and the characteristics that have become its objects, how then can there be the five sense consciousnesses, the mind, and the afflicted mind? In the Tantra of the Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Proliferation it says: Since there is no increase or decrease, one is liberated from the alaya consciousness. Since there is no grasper and grasped, one is liberated from the mind consciousness. Since there is no arising and ceasing, one is liberated from the five sense consciousnesses and returns to the original state. Thus it says. In the Treasury of Precious Tenets it says: In the samadhi where there is no mind of the nature of the basis alaya consciousness, and no afflicted mind, mind consciousness, and five sense consciousnesses, by looking at the directly perceived, internally there is no distraction of conceptual thought, therefore the arising of desire returns to the original state. In the state of luminosity, there is no antidote that makes the luminosity abide, therefore the arising of form returns to the original state. In non-conceptual one-pointedness, there is no mind that clings to the nature of reality, therefore the arising of the formless returns to the original state, therefore the mind of the three realms is pacified. Thus it is said. (༈) What is extremely important is that, at the time of Anuttarayoga, it is repeatedly proclaimed that the heart essence view of the Great Perfection of Naturalness is both the actual and the basis. Paltrul Rinpoche, the explanation of the actual basis of Yeshe Lama, as it is said in the Supreme Vehicle Treasury, after making annotations on Yeshe Lama, gave it to Lama Lungtok, and Shabdrung Rinpoche and others also said to Kyabje Rinpoche that the actual is the spontaneously accomplished Tögal field, the three palace kayas, the manifestation of Dharmata.
