Since everything is gathered in the mind of enlightenment, one should diligently cultivate the notion of great compassion. Since all phenomena are naturally clear light, one should diligently cultivate the notion of non-objectification. Since all things are impermanent, one should diligently cultivate the notion of non-attachment to anything. If one realizes the mind, it is wisdom, therefore one should diligently cultivate the notion of not seeking the Buddha elsewhere. Thus it is said. Next is the abiding Middle Way: From the perspective of abiding, it is the life-sustaining pulse. The Middle Way of Dharma-nature is: possessing the four characteristics of the root of Dharma-nature, the nature of clear light, free from contact and obstruction, as long as the aggregation of body, mind, and breath exists, it exists, therefore it is not non-existent either. When these three separate, it also becomes invisible, therefore it is not existent either, just as a rainbow appears when conditions gather, but disappears when the gathering separates. During meditation, in the center of the life-pulse. The reason for this is that the alaya-consciousness together with the life-wind relies on it, therefore everything becomes one taste in Dharma-nature. The ultimate Middle Way is: the nature of the fruit, which is no-nature. Next is the occasion of becoming proficient through such practice, etc. In order to clearly manifest the faith of purifying the Pure Land of Sukhavati, it is said in the "Sun of Upright Speech": Remembering Amitabha Buddha, accumulating immeasurable merit, generating the mind of enlightenment, dedicating and praying that the roots of virtue may be born in that field, four causes are taught. Among them, the main ones are remembering the Buddha and desiring to be born in that field. As its companions, accumulating merit, and for those who are certain to belong to the Mahayana lineage, generating the unsurpassed mind of enlightenment, these two are taught. Thus it is said. Someone might think that this field is more excellent than other pure fields, and all beings born there possess immeasurable qualities such as dharani, samadhi, and clairvoyance, therefore those who are not noble beings cannot be born there. If one believes that those born there possess such qualities as mentioned in the scriptures, then why not also accept the cause of being born there as stated in the scriptures? Such great qualities can also be accomplished with little effort.
