From the heart of Chandana Serpent, a self-arisen Avalokiteśvara was accomplished. A wondrous being resided there. That was the king's personal deity. Having said this, it vanished. Then, from the ūrṇā hair between the king's eyebrows, a manifestation of a monk named Akaramatiśīla appeared, with Buddha Amitābha residing on his head. He was then sent to invite the personal deity. Thereafter, that manifested monk arrived at a city called Central Transformation in southern India. There was a king named Utpala Kesara. This king's lineage was originally Buddhist, but later he adopted the religion of the Tirthikas, and every day he killed five goats to offer to the great Lord's idol. To the left of the king's palace was a stupa called Lotus Wheel, which had been consecrated by the Buddha Krakucchanda in the past. There, the manifested monk sat in the sky in front of the stupa's steps in the lotus position and circumambulated it. The king was amazed and invited him to the palace. Then, the king and his retinue converted to Buddhism. The monk said: King, you should build one hundred and eight temples. In those temples, build one hundred and eight statues of Chandana Serpent's heartwood and Chandana Gośīrṣa. The king said: The Chandana Serpent's heartwood is in Akanishtha, I have no power to obtain it. The Chandana Gośīrṣa is in the north of Malaya, entwined by venomous snakes, I cannot obtain it. Building one hundred and eight temples is possible. The monk said: I know the origin of the Chandana Serpent's heartwood, I will go to obtain it. Then, he led the king and his retinue to the shore of the sea of Simhala (Sri Lanka). He stirred up the many elephants lying behind the self-arisen stone-faced Avalokiteśvara, and when the sand beneath it was dug up, there was a tree of Chandana Serpent's heartwood. The king asked: Chandana Serpent's heartwood does not come to the human realm, why has it come here? The monk said: In the past, when the Buddha Krakucchanda came into the world, a Shravaka Arhat went to Akanishtha by means of miraculous power,

After taking a container, he set out. Inside it were four grains. Three grains were offered to the Buddha Krakucchanda (འཁོར་བ་འཇིག་), and one grain was offered to Jowo Khasarpani (ཇོ་བོ་ཁ་སཪྤ་ཎི་), placing it on the crown of his head. Blown by the wind, it fell behind him. In the place where it was pressed down by the earth, the dakinis moistened it with nectar, and a sprout emerged. When the Buddha Krakucchanda attained enlightenment, the flowers bloomed. When the Buddha Kashyapa attained enlightenment, the fruits ripened. When the Buddha Shakyamuni attained enlightenment, it had already become a large tree. When the Buddha Shakyamuni passed away, it is said that the tree fell and was buried by sand. After digging it out, the branches were cut off. Light emanated from the four holes of the tree trunk and then disappeared, while a sound of "cut slowly" was heard. There, after splitting the tree into four pieces, the noble Avalokiteshvara Wish-Fulfilling Jewel with eleven faces appeared from within, three peaceful faces and seven wrathful faces, with Amitabha Buddha residing above them, the ten root hands holding implements, and light and rays radiating in ten directions. One hundred and eight pieces were made from that sandalwood tree, and one hundred and eight statues were built and placed in one hundred and eight temples. After that, cow-head sandalwood was also taken and done as before. After that, a monk took a bushel of relics of the past seven Buddhas from a stupa in the shape of a lotus vase, and then went to an ocean island. Seeing that there was a Buddha on each blade of grass, he also took a bundle of grass. After that, he came to the bank of the Nairanjana River and saw that there was a Buddha on each grain of sand, so he also took a bushel of sand. Snake-heart sandalwood and cow-head sandalwood, as well as a small piece of branch from the Bodhi tree, and soil from the eight great sacred sites, were all invited and offered to the king. The king said, "Can you, with the Nepalese craftsmen, build an eleven-faced Avalokiteshvara statue named after my Buddha image?" He replied, "Yes." The materials for construction included: pieces of snake-heart sandalwood, pieces of cow-head sandalwood, branches of the Bodhi tree, grass from the ocean island, sand from the Nairanjana River, and soil from the eight great sacred sites invited from India, etc.
