Distinguishing by categories, a completely pure action is when both thought and action are of the same kind, entirely pure, and the path of virtuous action is complete, such as offering to the lama with faith. A completely defiled action is when both thought and action are of the same kind, entirely defiled, and the path of non-virtuous action is complete, such as taking a life with the intention to kill. A mixed black and white action is when the thought is white but the action is black, such as killing to save many, and giving alms with the intention to kill, where the thought is black but the action is white. In this way, mixed actions cause one to experience alternating happiness and suffering as desired. That is, the nature of karma is not mixed black and white, but it is established as such based on the function of the action. The uncontaminated action that exhausts those black and white actions is said to be neither white nor black. The action of the mind is the action of the mind that clearly engages, namely merit, non-merit, and immovability. The action of thought is the action of body, speech, and mind, virtuous and non-virtuous. What is the action that arises from the mind? It is when others are unwilling, but one commands, "Do this," like this, non-virtuous conduct arising from the mind, and when others request, but one insists, "It would be good to do this," and forces them, this arises from the mind, and when one does not know good from bad, without attachment, the action arises from the mind's own will, and when the mind is very attached to the root of non-virtue, the action arises from strongly attached non-virtuous conduct, and when one desires Dharma but engages in non-virtue for the sake of pleasing the next life, this arises from a reversed mind. The first three do not necessarily have the certainty of experiencing the ripening result, so even if done, it is as if nothing has been accumulated. But the ripening result of actions arising from fundamental attachment and a reversed mind, having been done and accumulated, is not something that will not be experienced. Doing action is continuously practicing. Accumulation is when the seeds of ripening are nourished and increased on the alaya consciousness of habits. Projection is projecting the ripening result. Completion is experiencing what is desired and undesired at birth. If one has many actions, how do they ripen in order? The heaviest ripens first, and also whichever is most manifest at the time of death, and whichever one is most accustomed to. Or the one that was practiced first will ripen first. Sentient beings' lifespan, karma, and

Having exhausted merit, one dies and transmigrates from the heavens, etc. Exhaustion of merit is untimely death. For example, by experiencing the taste of meditative absorption, merit is exhausted, and one dies even before the time has come. Exhaustion of karma means that the karma to be experienced after being born there, and the previous countless karmas to be experienced, are all exhausted. In the past, when the Shakyas became fishermen, etc. Four armies were arrayed, saying, "The Shakyas must be killed." The Teacher thought, "If the Shakyas have not yet seen the truth and are attacked by the army of Holy Birth, it will not be good." So he spread a seat of leaves on the road. He sat in a small shade, and Holy Birth put down the good trees and asked, "Why do you sit here?" He replied, "This is the place nurtured by my relatives, and the warmth of relatives is very cool." Holy Birth thought, "He cares about his relatives," and temporarily withdrew his troops. After that, the Teacher taught the Dharma to the Shakyas, and most of them saw the truth. After that, most of the Shakyas were killed by the army of Holy Birth. After the Teacher went to Shravasti, he prophesied that Holy Birth and Mala-ghna would be burned to death in seven days and then fall into hell. At that time, in the king's garden, a single-pillared mansion was built in the pond, and he and his consorts lived there. One of the consorts placed a fire mirror on the bronze mirror inside the bed, and the fire started, and the mansion was burned down. The consorts fled, and Holy Birth and Mala-ghna also began to flee, but non-humans closed the door, and they were burned to death and fell into hell. In Jeta Grove, as soon as the Teacher said that his foot was pierced by a thorn, a sharp thorn as tall as a span immediately appeared. Maudgalyayana's son tried to pull it out, but could not move it. Even if the Teacher went to the Brahma world, the thorn followed him, and he arrived in Shravasti. The Teacher grabbed his right foot with his right hand, placed the thorn on the sharp tip, and as soon as he pulled it out, the earth shook violently. The Teacher told Ananda, "This is the remnant of the karma of killing the deceitful Brahma in the past."
