Seeking pure conduct, approaching me, the wise one." Thus, he spoke verses praising the qualities. Then, Norzang sat before Maitreya, asking, "O Holy One, if I enter into unsurpassed Bodhi, how should I train in the conduct of a Bodhisattva? How should I diligently practice?" Then, the Bodhisattva Maitreya looked at the entire circle of attendants and, pointing to the merchant's son Norzang, said, "The merchant's son Norzang, in order to accomplish the conduct of a Bodhisattva, was sent by Manjushri from the city of Auspicious Origin, and having taken him near, he traversed all the regions of the south, and having questioned one hundred and ten virtuous spiritual friends, he finally came to me. During this time, he did not feel weary, but came with increasing intention." Thus he spoke. The manner in which the Bodhisattva Ever Weeping relied on the Bodhisattva Dharma Victorious: When the Bodhisattva Ever Weeping was seeking the Perfection of Wisdom, he heard from the sky, "Go to the east!" He thought, "Until I have obtained the Perfection of Wisdom, I will not pay attention to fatigue, hunger, thirst, sleep and drowsiness, day and night, etc." Like a mother who has lost her only child, without any other thought in mind, thinking about when he would hear the Perfection of Wisdom, he went from east to east, and in order to serve the virtuous spiritual friend, he sold his body, flesh, and blood. The merchant's daughter, with five hundred attendants, went to the east, and in the city filled with fragrance, they offered the Bodhisattva Dharma Victorious with offerings, and generated the supreme mind of enlightenment. That Bodhisattva remained in meditative absorption for seven years, and when he arose from that meditative absorption and began to teach the Dharma, in order to ensure that there was no dust within one yojana of that place, he began to sprinkle and sweep, at which point the evil demon made all the water disappear. The Bodhisattva Ever Weeping pierced all the veins in his body and sprinkled with blood, and the merchant's daughter, with five hundred attendants, also each...

When all the veins of the body were pierced and smeared with blood, the lord of the gods, Indra, blessed all that blood into red sandalwood of the heavenly realm. Accompanied by Sadāprarudita and his retinue, a magnificent lion throne was arranged there, and the Bodhisattva Dharmapāla came and sat upon it. He taught the Perfection of Wisdom, and the Bodhisattva Sadāprarudita attained sixty hundred thousand gates of samādhi. He saw the faces of countless Buddhas. From then on, he was never separated from seeing the Buddha even in his dreams, and even now, it is said that he dwells in the presence of the complete and perfect Buddha, who proclaims inexhaustible sounds. Similarly, when Nāropa the Great Pandit relied on Tilopa, he also practiced immeasurable hardships. Nāropa was born into the best of the eight black and white lineages of the Brahmin caste, called Nārotapa. Later, he renounced the world and entered the Buddhist teachings, becoming known as Jñānasiddhi. When he became a Pandit, there were six famous gatekeepers at glorious Nālandā: Śāntipa, the guardian of the eastern gate; Vāgīśvarakīrti, the guardian of the southern gate; Śerjung Lodrö, the guardian of the western gate; Jñānamitra and the Brahmin Ratnavajra in the center; and Nāropa was renowned as the Pandit who guarded the northern gate. At that time, although I was skilled in the subjects of knowledge and learning, my own mind did not remain still even for a moment, so I thought that I needed an instruction to gain control over my mind. Therefore, in a secluded place, I practiced the close heart mantra of the glorious Chakrasamvara, the seven-syllable mantra, seven hundred thousand times. Signs such as the earth shaking appeared, and a ḍākinī prophesied that I should go to the east to the presence of the guru Tilopa. Then, when he told his friend, Ratnavajra said, "I have become a complete Pandit, and I will not bow to the feet of a yogi," and refused to go. Then the teacher went to a place called Jvārā Bihāra in eastern India and asked everyone where Tilopa was. Some said, "He lives in the guise of a renunciate." Others said, "He lives in the guise of a yogi. Sometimes he comes here, sometimes he goes to the monastery of Bihāra," but he could not find him.
