Like a lamp. (The guru) can fulfill all wishes, like a wish-fulfilling tree. (The guru) can accomplish all thoughts, like a good vase. (The guru) has immeasurable love, like the orb of the sun. (The guru) can eliminate the suffering of afflictions, like the orb of the moon. (The guru) can bestow the wealth of qualities, like Vaishravana. And so on. Such a guru is, in terms of compassion and blessing, no different from all Buddhas. Merely seeing the guru's body, hearing the guru's voice, remembering the guru's actions, etc., can eliminate the suffering of afflictions. Those with good karma will attain Buddhahood in this lifetime, while those with bad karma will wander in samsara endlessly. As it says in "The Treasury of Precious Qualities": "Such a guru is no different from all Buddhas. Even if harmed, one can connect with the path of happiness. For the person who relies on him with unfeigned faith, the qualities of high status and definite goodness will fall like rain." Furthermore, the great bodhisattva Shantideva said: "To whom harm is done, it becomes a cause for happiness. I take refuge in that source of happiness." This means that if one benefits a bodhisattva, the bodhisattva will certainly give happiness. But even if one harms him with insults, etc., the power of the bodhisattva's aspiration and prayer will cause the one with bad karma to wander in samsara endlessly, and ultimately connect the harmer with ultimate happiness. Then, if someone asks, "Earlier it was said that generating evil thoughts towards a bodhisattva will cause one to be born in hell, but here it is said that even if one harms him, one can connect with happiness. Are these two contradictory?" They are not contradictory. The former refers to the case where one generates evil thoughts and does not repent, in which case one will fall into the lower realms near death. This refers to a situation that is close in time. The latter refers to the case where, relying on the bodhisattva's aspiration and prayer, the harmer is ultimately connected with happiness, which refers to a situation that is long in time. Second, how to rely on, that is, the characteristics of the disciple, divided into two aspects: abandonment and acceptance. First, the disciple to be abandoned. In the "Continuum of Clear Space," it says: "The disciple who is not a vessel, has little knowledge and likes to gossip, is observant of faces and has many schemes, is eloquent but clumsy, is deceitful and greedy, violates the guru's teachings, argues with kindness, does not see qualities but only finds faults, has bad lineage and bad nature, despises kindness and praises himself, and whose practice of the true Dharma and vows is disordered. A guru who does not examine his disciples is an enemy." As it is said, the evil disciple's sin
