I respectfully prostrate at the feet of the Lamas of the Three Lineages. Here, this is the supreme of all vehicles, the swift path to achieving Buddhahood in one lifetime, the essential instructions of the Luminous Great Perfection, the oral instructions of the Glorious Protector Lama of the Three Lineages. Now, I will explain the preliminary practices of the Longchen Nyingtik, which arose from the Mind Treasury of the intention of the Omniscient King Longchen Rabjam. There are two parts: 1. Explaining the auxiliary parts of what is to be explained; 2. Explaining the actual subject matter. First, explaining the auxiliary parts of what is to be explained, which also has two parts: 1. Motivation; 2. Conduct. First, motivation also has two parts: 1. The motivation of the vast intention, the Bodhicitta; 2. The motivation of the vast means, the Secret Mantra. First, the motivation of the vast intention, the Bodhicitta: The object is vast, desiring to free all limitless sentient beings from suffering; the purpose is vast, desiring to establish those sentient beings in the state of perfect Buddhahood; the courage is vast, even for the sake of one sentient being, entering into the uninterrupted hell with joy, like a swan entering a lotus-filled lake; the time is vast, until samsara is empty, abandoning self-interest and taking only the benefit of others to heart. Thus, having understood that the root of all virtuous Dharmas is the precious Bodhicitta, it is extremely important that we, in our respective states as ordinary beings, at the beginning of practicing the Dharma, examine our own minds well and transform our motivation into the nature of Bodhicitta. As it is said: \"The first head of all Dharmas, is like the Indian language, to examine one's own mind well, said the unequaled supreme Lama.\" As such. The Teacher Hero (Śūrasimha) said: \"Not for competition, not for wanting fame, not for desiring higher realms, not for achieving royal power, not for obtaining my own supreme bliss, but for accomplishing the benefit of others, I compose this.\" As such. Omniscient Jigme Lingpa also said: \"If the root is medicine, the sprout is also medicine; if the root is poison," } ] ============================================================

Needless to mention the sprouts. From the difference between virtuous and non-virtuous thoughts, the images of virtue and vice follow in size. As it is said. No matter how vast or small the root of virtue is cultivated, it must be based on the mind of Bodhicitta, abandoning one's own happiness and striving for the happiness of all beings. As it is said in the Ratnavali: Like the sky pervading all directions, so are earth, water, fire, and wind. Like the sky, I desire that sentient beings be free from endless suffering. As it is said. Just as the sky pervades, so do sentient beings pervade. Where sentient beings pervade, karma and afflictions pervade. Where karma and afflictions pervade, suffering pervades. These sentient beings pervaded by suffering, in general, from beginningless samsara until now, there is not one who has not been one's own parent. Especially when reborn as humans, just as the present root mother cherishes us, she carried us in her womb for nine months and ten days. Then, at the time of birth, even a place that is repulsive, that kind mother embraces without hesitation. She wipes the dirt from the back, wipes the unclean things with her hands, warms with the warmth of her body, feeds sweet milk, looks with loving eyes, nurtures with a compassionate heart, calls with sweet names, greets with joyful smiles, plays at the tips of her ten fingers, nourishes with delicious and sweet food, caresses and covers with warm and soft clothes, accomplishes all beneficial happiness, and protects from many harmful things. Disregarding all hardships and sufferings, she lovingly nurtures again and again, and is entirely kind. Those kind ones, although they desire happiness, do not know how to practice the ten virtues, the cause of happiness. Although they do not want suffering, they do not know how to abandon the ten non-virtuous deeds, the cause of suffering. As the great Bodhisattva Shantideva said: Although they have the mind to abandon suffering, they actually run towards suffering. Although they desire happiness, because of their ignorance, they destroy their own happiness like an enemy. As it is said, what they desire and what they do go against each other, they go astray, lose their way, and like a blind person in the middle of a field, these sentient beings are pitiful. Now that I have obtained leisure and endowment
