Now, from the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury: The five poisons are in turmoil, foolishness and delusion are seized by demons, the lazy are overwhelmed by the great ocean of negative karma. Being controlled by others, fearing harm, pretending to be Dharma, these are the eight kinds of lack of leisure due to immediate circumstances. They are contrary to the path of liberation and are not vessels for the Dharma. As it says, those whose minds are extremely coarse due to the turmoil of the five poisons, although they may occasionally have the desire to practice the Dharma, they are mostly controlled by the power of the five poisons in their own minds and cannot accomplish the true Dharma. Those who are extremely foolish and deluded have no light of wisdom at all, and even if they enter the Dharma gate, they cannot understand even a small amount of the meaning of the Dharma words, and they have no opportunity to practice hearing, thinking, and meditating. If they are seized by a demonic spiritual friend who teaches upside-down views and behaviors, they will turn their minds to the wrong path and go against the sacred Dharma. Those who want to learn the Dharma but have no diligence at all are controlled by laziness and procrastination and cannot accomplish the Dharma. Even if they are diligent in the Dharma, they do not develop qualities in their own minds, and the great ocean of negative karma, which is full of sins and obscurations, does not know that it is the result of their own actions and becomes disgusted with the Dharma. Those who have no freedom and are enslaved by others, although they have the desire to practice the Dharma, they are controlled by others and cannot practice as they wish. Those who fear the food, clothing, etc. of this life and harm from others, and enter the Dharma gate for this reason, do not have a definite understanding of the Dharma from the bottom of their hearts, and are led by old habits from the past and engage in non-Dharma activities. Those who are images of monks without Dharma who seek fame and reputation, although they pretend to be Dharma in the eyes of others, they are only concerned with this life with the thought of the eight worldly dharmas, and are separated from the path of liberation, and these eight are also not places for practicing the Dharma, and they waste their leisure and endowments, so it is said to be upside-down and confused. Secondly, the eight kinds of lack of leisure of the mind that is cut off from conditions are, as it says in that same treatise: Bound by vows, possessing extremely bad behavior, not fearing samsara, having no faith at all. Not doing virtuous deeds, committing sins, being separated from the mind of Dharma, those who break vows and commitments. These are the eight kinds of lack of leisure of the mind that is cut off from conditions. Far from the Dharma, the path of liberation

As it is said, "The lamp is extinguished." Those who are bound by the tight fetters of pursuing this life are too busy striving for enjoyment, marriage, and so on, and have no time to practice Dharma. Those who have no basis, not even a sesame seed's worth, due to their own wickedness, find it difficult to turn to the path of the holy even if they meet a virtuous spiritual friend. If there is no fear at all of the faults of the lower realms and samsara, or of the sufferings of this life, then the mind of renunciation, the cause of entering the Dharma, will not arise at all. If there is not even a little faith in the true Dharma and the lama, then the entrance to the teachings is blocked, and one cannot enter the path of liberation. If one delights in non-virtue and sinful deeds, and the three doors are not subdued, then one is separated from the qualities of the holy and turns away from the Dharma. If there is no appearance of qualities, virtue, and the holy Dharma, it is like placing grass before a dog; one has no interest in the Dharma, and qualities do not arise in one's own mind. Having entered the common vehicle, if bodhicitta and vows are broken, there is no place to go other than the lower realms, and one cannot escape from the state of no leisure. Having entered the secret mantra vehicle, if one breaks the samaya with the lama and vajra brothers and sisters, then the opportunity for accomplishment is cut off. These eight are far from the holy Dharma and are said to extinguish the lamp of liberation. Therefore, carefully examine whether you possess or do not possess these thirty-four qualities of leisure and endowment: the twenty-four qualities of leisure and the ten qualities of endowment. If you possess them, cultivate joy and think that you have now obtained a precious human body like a wish-fulfilling jewel, and do not waste it. Instead, practice a true Dharma that benefits yourself and others, and make a vow in your heart. If you do not possess them, strive to obtain them by various means. The third is to contemplate the example of rarity: The Blessed One said that obtaining a human body is as difficult as a yoke hole on the great ocean churned by great waves meeting the neck of a blind turtle at the bottom of the ocean. From where is it said? From the Flower Garland Sutra: Becoming a human being and achieving leisure and endowment are also extremely difficult to obtain. Therefore, an example should be shown: Shariputra, for example, this great earth becomes a single ocean, and so on, is spoken extensively. That is also an example, such as a thousand.
