Attachment! Therefore, as long as the clinging to subject and object has not subsided into the expanse, although the appearance of those objects, such as those with obstacles, cannot be completely eliminated, one should know that although they appear, they are not real, and if one clings to them as real, it is like being bound by the net of demons. Therefore, cutting off clinging or attachment to them is the severance on the path. Ultimately, when habit becomes natural, all appearances and attachments are liberated, and one becomes equal in taste with the great Dharmakaya, which is the result. Even so, how does one cut off attachment? Because one does not abandon the four objects of attachment, but rather accepts them due to clinging, attachment arises. Therefore, by ascertaining that these objects have no inherent existence, and not following after them, one utters "ཕཊཿ" (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari: फट, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: phaṭ, Chinese literal meaning: "Smash!"), throwing them away like a stone, and abiding in the great equal taste, this is cutting off attachment. Having cut off attachment in this way, the four objects have no opportunity to cause harm. Thus it is said. The method of transforming the four maras into the path is: the word "mara" arises from the sound "མ་རི་ན" (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari: मारिन, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: mārina, Chinese literal meaning: slayer), accumulating faults until realization, and accumulating merits after realization. The time of severance is when those who have not yet attained the ground and are on the path of accumulation, because it is a worldly path, at that time one cannot control one's mind, and unwanted things such as illnesses will come; because one has not attained miraculous powers and *innate wisdom*, one will be obstructed by the four elements, and at that time it is difficult to sever the mara of obstacles. The mara of no obstacles, although one has not attained the ground, but because one possesses the instructions of Chöd, one can sever it during the stages of accumulation and application. The path of seeing is a path beyond the world, so one can sever the mara of obstacles, namely the four elements, poisons, and weapons, etc. If one knows how to transform it into the path, it is not a mara, but rather it shows: when one can sever the mara of no obstacles, it opens the door to qualities, namely inner happiness and suffering are of equal taste, and outer samsara and nirvana are of equal taste, therefore it is a guide to qualities, so it is not a mara. Relying on the mara of obstacles, one obtains the warmth of practice, possesses the strength of asceticism, and realization has certainty, it is the guide to the manifestation of miraculous powers, and is a helper in accomplishing the benefit of others, therefore it is not a mara. The mara of pride is: obtaining certainty in inner practice, generating the warmth of virtuous deeds, and obtaining the power of practice, this is the mara of pride, and if there is no mara of pride, then

Because there is no Chö practice and no practice. For beginners, it is necessary to be proud when performing Chö. When miracles occur, in the state of emptiness view, generosity and confidence in practice are needed, that is pride, not a demon. The demon of joy and pride is: when performing Chö, if obstacles such as illness occur, one should regard it as joy. Why is that? Because relying on that obstacle, that obstacle will complete the accumulation of merit, purify obscurations, exhaust bad karma, increase virtuous deeds, eliminate obstacles on the path, and bring happiness and suffering equally into the path, thinking that one will attain perfect enlightenment, that is the demon of joy and pride. In the Chö notes, it says: By searching for the mind, cut off the foundation, and then entrust consciousness to the undifferentiated realm of reality. If you practice the fusion of the realm of reality and awareness, then the undifferentiated realm of reality will become clearer and clearer as the nature of emptiness. If the foundation is not cut off, there is no way to recognize the meaning of Prajnaparamita. Then, in the actual fusion of the realm of reality and awareness, if awareness is wrapped in the box of aggregates and cannot be taken out nakedly, then separate the object from its support, take it out nakedly and merge it into the realm of reality, which is to take awareness out of the unsupported state, which is called the fusion of the realm of reality and awareness, which is the unique characteristic of Chö. The great Drubchen said that this method of separating body and mind by gradually raising the thigle of the mind also includes the practice of settling in the six realms. In this way, if the fusion of the realm of reality and awareness is up to standard, then if you perform the offering on top of that, you will not cling to the body as your own, but it will be easy to generate thoughts like grass and walls, so it is the sharp sword of the essential instruction that forcibly cuts off the clinging of attachment. It is said that if the fusion of the realm of reality and awareness is pure, then it is the same even if you practice the meaning of Prajnaparamita without separating body and mind. Moreover, when opening the door of the sky, keep the state of fusion of the realm of reality and awareness in a focused state. If you cannot abide in that, then cut off clinging by offering. In that state, you should also fuse the realm of reality and awareness. It is said that all the stages of objectivation here are the training of the postures and skills of practicing the meaning of Prajnaparamita. And, regarding the fusion of the realm of reality and awareness here, because consciousness is placed in an unsupported state, the manifestations of sudden thoughts with objective support will gradually decrease, and then gradually, the support
