Preliminary Compilation Preliminary Compilation pūrbakāsarvaṃtabicitḥbijaharaṃ. (Tibetan) Preliminary Compilation. Namo gurubhyaḥ (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, gurubhyaḥ, Homage to the Gurus). Here, regarding the outer and inner preliminary stages of the Great Perfection Longchen Nyingtik, the extensive and concise preliminaries spoken by the wise and accomplished ones are compiled as follows. That is, first, when it is time to wake up at dawn, visualize in the sky in front of you the form of the root guru Orgyen Vajradhara, surrounded by a retinue of heroes and dakinis, urged by the sound of the damaru, the mantra sounds of the sixteen vowels and thirty-four consonants, awakening from sleep. One's own basic body is the nature of the dakini Yeshe Tsogyal, the form is Jetsun Vajrayogini, and the arrangement of the pure realm, arising in a state of clarity. The prayer to urge the lama to arise has two aspects, outer and inner. First, the outer guide, the virtuous spiritual friend, is: Lama Khyen, etc. When reciting the first phrase "Lama Khyen," in order to generate the mind of renunciation in the minds of oneself and others, the Lama, the Buddha, and the Dharmakaya, the three. When reciting the second phrase, in order to generate the precious Bodhicitta in the minds of oneself and others, the Yidam, the Dharma, and the Sambhogakaya, the three. When reciting the third phrase, in order to generate the pure vision of pure appearance in the minds of oneself and others, the Dakini, the Sangha, and the Nirmanakaya, the three. Or, in the first phrase, the Three Jewels, in the second phrase, the Three Roots, and in the third phrase, the Three Kayas, that is, visualizing the nature of the assembly of all refuges, due to the cause of recitation, the compassion of the lama, from the four or eight petals of the lotus in the center of one's heart, from the blossoming of the pistils of pure desire and confident faith, dispelling the suffering of this life, the next life, and the bardo, as well as the cause and effect, the sole refuge, the master who shows the path of liberation and omniscience, the kind root guru rises up, passes through the path of the central channel, and happily abides in the sky above the crown of the head. Why is this necessary? Because the result of intense karma and afflictions, the terrible fate of being tormented and afflicted by great suffering, one is afflicted by the suffering of karma and afflictions.
