Because they are without essence and are not characteristics. Third, the Great Peak (Agra): Through four investigations, fully understanding Prajnaparamita is the wisdom that sees all dharmas as without object. The four investigations are: What is this Prajnaparamita? Whose is this? Why is this? What is this? For example, 'the perfection of wisdom'. Regarding the three Kṣānti (Patience): great, medium, and small. The first, the nature of dharmas such as form, which is without self-nature, is the wisdom that becomes self-nature through the characteristic of non-investigation. The second, because of ignorance, those investigated dharmas do not arise, and there is no fixed change in them, and because of the purity of self-nature, the nature of dharmas such as form, in the state of being with defilements, do not arise, and in the state of being without defilements, there is no sudden fixed arising, so the Bodhisattva acts without object, the characteristics of body, speech, and mind are completely purified, and they are not born into bad destinies due to karma. The third, the nature of dharmas such as form, in form etc., there are no characteristics of meditative conceptual activity, and the mind is inverted. What should be fully known is the perception inversion. What is called 'faith' is the view inversion. Fourth, the three supreme dharmas (Agra-dharma): great, medium, and small. The first is non-conceptual samadhi and the action of that samadhi. If that samadhi is divided, there are eight and twenty-one, such as the non-arising of all dharmas and courageous conduct. The action of samadhi is that the Bodhisattva who abides in it quickly attains enlightenment. The second, the words spoken by the Bodhisattva with that samadhi, the Tathagata prophesies unsurpassed enlightenment, and I equally enter samadhi in the three times, will enter, and am entering. The pride that arises from samadhi is exhausted. The third, in this state, because dualistic grasping is extinguished, the grasper and the grasped are equal, therefore Prajnaparamita, samadhi, and the three Bodhisattvas, in the manner of being mutually based, their essence is one. Why? Because samadhi is non-conceptual. Summarizing the meaning of the small, medium, and great: as mentioned above, the conclusion of everything, the four factors of definite emergence, heat, peak, patience, and supreme dharma, each also has small, medium, and great. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dividing the great categories into three, there are twelve aspects in total. Fifth, if we classify conceptualizations (rnam rtog), there are two types: apprehending conceptualization (gzung rtog) and grasping conceptualization ('dzin rtog). In order, that which is apprehended as the object to be grasped, and that which is feared as the grasper, are their characteristics. First, apprehending conceptualization is divided into two types: reverting apprehending conceptualization and entering apprehending conceptualization, based on the distinction between apprehending the basis as flawed with afflictions and apprehending the purification of those afflictions as virtuous qualities. Each of these is further divided into nine types based on the distinctions of ignorance (ma rig pa), existence (srid pa), aggregates (phung), elements (khams), sense sources (skye mched), etc., resulting in nine types for each of the two apprehending conceptualizations. What is apprehending the object to be entered as flawed and clinging to it, causing the mind to revert? What is apprehending the object to be grasped as virtuous and clinging to it, causing the mind to enter? Second, grasping conceptualization is viewed as the conceptualization that grasps mind as substantially existent (rdzas 'dzin rtog pa), and the conceptualization that grasps mind as eternally existent (rtag 'dzin rtog pa). The clinging of sentient beings to a substantially existent basis, i.e., an object, and the clinging of sentient beings to an eternally existent basis, i.e., an object, are also considered to be of two types, as in the previous division of apprehending conceptualization. These grasping conceptualizations, through the terms 'self' (bdag) and 'etc.,' divide the basis of beings (sems can) and persons (skyes bu) into nine types, and through the terms 'aggregates' (phung po) and 'etc.,' divide the basis of elements (khams) and sense sources (skye mched) into nine types. These two types of grasping conceptualization with an object are also divided into nine types each, just like the division of apprehending conceptualization. Sixth, explaining complete retention (yongs 'dzin): Because it is so, complete retention, which is the nature of skillful means, is the unyielding mind. Fear itself, and the terms 'etc.,' which include terror and becoming terrified, refer to small, medium, and great fear, respectively, as explained in the 'Subduing Harm' chapter of the Ornament for Clear Realization (mDo rgyan). It is not without other causes, as the Ornament for the Sutras (mDo rgyan) states: 'The traveler fears what is not the place, which causes suffering.' Etc. Hearing the Prajnaparamita (shes phyin) teaching emptiness (stong pa nyid) of inherent existence (rang bzhin), the cause of the unyielding mind, etc., is that skillful means refers to individually discriminating all phenomena as without inherent existence, and the perfection of the six perfections (phar phyin drug) included in the term 'etc.,' and the skillful means of relying on a stable spiritual friend (dge ba'i bshes gnyen) who teaches the Great Vehicle (theg chen) without inversion, and abandoning the evil friend (sdig pa'i grogs po) who is contrary to that spiritual friend. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
