In my ears, resounding on the paths, what is heard in the four seasons, all of those will attain enlightenment. And, in the Vinaya it says: Thus, one asks another, one admonishes another and subsequently reveals, the teacher's doctrine is thereby manifested. And, for those who seek the true reality of the Dharma, explaining the meaning of the words and ensuring that the Dharma is integrated into their own mindstream, for those who understand its meaning, there is immeasurable merit. As it is said in the Bhadrakalpa Sutra: Whatever sentient beings in this world, they all surpass the adornment of enlightenment, whoever hears the words without aggregates, is not afraid, that person's merit is particularly excellent. And, it is necessary to strive for listening and speaking, that is, taming the Bodhicitta, unfailing courage, diligence, gentleness, individually discerning, and practice. Diligence, like generating the joy of entering a garden or an immeasurable palace, this is what is said in the common path. The special case is, the scripture says: Life is controlled by karma and conditions, wherever the true Dharma declines, even crossing the flames and the edge of a razor, until the very end, one must protect the true Dharma. And so on, from many places it is explained that the benefits of teaching and listening to the Dharma are many, especially when the Dharma flourished in holy Tibet, great deeds were accomplished. Now in this era, when the Dharma is close to decline, even enduring some hardship for the sake of the Dharma is said to be of great benefit. The sutra says: Whenever the true Dharma declines, or when the Sugata's teachings are obscured, practicing one precept day and night, this merit cannot be compared to hundreds of thousands. And, Master Tsongkhapa said: In the past, the dedication to the Dharma, the vast deeds that were done, at this time with a stronger intention, doing a little is even more excellent. Formerly, Kashmiri Pandit Shakya Shri came to Tibet, passing through Dromo (present-day Yadong County), at that time the Tibetan people recited Buddhist scriptures, wrote scriptures, for the living, for the dead, recited scriptures for the sick, laypeople, temples, monks and nuns, male and female yogis, etc., practiced virtuous deeds.

were highly valued, and even ordinary people observed things like abstaining from killing. Panchen Lama was very pleased, and the Tibetan people asked: Dharma Lord, have you not become weary? He replied: My body is weary, but my mind is not weary. My body is weary because the roads in Tibet are difficult to travel, but my mind is not weary because at this time all the monks and laypeople in Tibet are delighted that the customs of Dharma and virtue are flourishing. The Dharma Lord said: If one person's life can be applied to virtue, it is more important than placing all the animals filling Jambudvipa in happiness. Je Panchen always said that whatever he did, he should not let anything go to waste without applying it to the three virtues. The three things are: that which arises from generosity, even throwing a flower; that which arises from moral discipline, one day of fasting, or just one day of abstaining from killing; and that which arises from meditation, meditating on Jowo Thukje Chenpo (Avalokiteśvara), or meditating on compassion, or just meditating on dreams as illusions. After taking these three virtuous things into hand, he would practice three aspirations each time: May this root of virtue quickly attain perfect enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings! May I be reborn after death in a pure land of emanation such as Tushita or Sukhavati, and enjoy the sacred Dharma! May I not be separated from the sacred Dharma even at the time of death, and may there be no regret in my heart! Thinking of the benefits of making such aspirations, Je Tsongkhapa also focused solely on teaching the Dharma and the methods of guiding beings to virtue, which is the supreme and unsurpassed biography. As an aside, now back to the main topic. After Je himself performed the usual festivals at the age of thirty-seven in the Wood Sheep year (1415), he fulfilled the wishes of those from Kham and Tibet who came to request Dharma empowerments. Although some great lamas made many requests to receive many empowerments and Dharma teachings, he temporarily declined to promise, citing retreat as a reason. Because the rainbow clouds in the sky above Bre Gon Thod Monastery were beautifully shaped and lasted for several days, his mother was worried that Je might have a problem with his body and was concerned. But Je said: Mother and son also have such expectations at the time of death.
