It proceeds through the four doors of view, meditation, conduct, and result. Namely, the view is to have unwavering conviction, the meditation is to have conviction unmixed with the mind, and the conduct is to proceed in a manner that is free from pleasure and pain, good and bad, and is endowed with the same taste of samsara and nirvana. The difference in thought is that the view is without desire, without wanting to attain Buddhahood, without wanting to abandon samsara, and the meditation is without grasping and without falling into one side. The fifth is the time: until Buddhahood is attained. The sixth condition is the desire not to take a body. The seventh necessity or quality is the necessity and quality of attaining perfect Buddhahood in this very life. The fourth is that the three, the object of refuge, the act of refuge, and the refuge giver, are primordially pure, and that is the Three Jewels of Suchness itself. Machig (name of a female accomplished one) said: "Thus, the nature of mind that is free from all afflictions, the stability that cannot be shaken by any condition, and the clarity that is free from obscuration, that is the Buddha Jewel. The clarity that is endowed with clarity, with the wisdom of individual discernment that thoroughly distinguishes all phenomena, that is the Dharma Jewel. With the wisdom that thoroughly distinguishes all phenomena, it dispels the ignorance of all sentient beings, shows the wisdom of awareness, and leads to the ground of Buddhahood, that is the Sangha Jewel." Knowing this from what was said. The fifth is that the three aspects of the Lama, body, speech, and mind, are the Three Jewels of closeness. Machig (name of a female accomplished one) said: "Having the perception of one's own root Lama as the actual Buddha, the Lama who is regarded as the Buddha, that is the Buddha Jewel. The sacred Dharma spoken from the mouth of that Lama, that is the Dharma Jewel. The Dharma friend whose appearance and actions are in harmony, that is the Sangha Jewel." So it is said. The third, the individual, is generally the eight kinds of guests, including oneself and one's parents, etc. In particular, the object to be tamed must be one who has devotion and remembers the qualities of the Three Jewels. The fourth is that in order to liberate all sentient beings from the suffering of samsara, I take refuge until I attain the essence of enlightenment. Machig's (name of a female accomplished one) thought is that sentient beings are not just on one side, but for the sake of all sentient beings who pervade the limits of space. So it is said. The fifth necessity is for this guest.

May these gathered beings be liberated from samsara and attain the state of liberation and omniscience. Fourth is: The three, the one to be saved, the one who saves, and the savior, are inherently pure, and that is the suchness of the Three Jewels. Machig said: Like this, the mind-essence that is free from all afflictions, the stability that cannot be shaken by any cause, possessing the essence of clarity without obscuration, that is the Buddha Jewel. Possessing the essence of clarity, using the wisdom of individual discernment to thoroughly distinguish all dharmas, that is the Dharma Jewel. Using the wisdom that thoroughly distinguishes all dharmas, eliminating the ignorance of all sentient beings, revealing the wisdom of awareness, and leading them to the state of Buddhahood, that is the Sangha Jewel. Thus it is known. Fifth is: The three aspects of the Guru's body, speech, and mind are the close Three Jewels. Machig said: By regarding one's own root Guru as the actual Buddha, the Guru who is regarded as the Buddha, that is the Buddha Jewel. The sacred Dharma spoken from the mouth of that Guru, that is the Dharma Jewel. The Dharma friend whose appearance and conduct are in harmony, that is the Sangha Jewel. Thus it is said. Third is the individual: Generally, it refers to myself and the eight types of guests, including parents, etc. In particular, the disciple to be tamed must be one who possesses faith and reverence and remembers the qualities of the Three Jewels. Fourth is: In order to liberate all sentient beings from the suffering of samsara, I take refuge until I attain the essence of enlightenment. Machig said: The thought is, not just for the sentient beings of one direction, but for the sake of all sentient beings pervading the limits of space. Thus it is said. Fifth is the purpose: To liberate the gathered guests here from samsara and attain the state of liberation and omniscience. Such diverse distinctions are intended for disciples with very sharp faculties. Those who possess these experiences and realizations will not be reborn in the three realms of samsara. The Three Jewels are also unborn, and in one's own mind, free from elaboration, one knows that the one to be saved, the one who saves, and the place of refuge are all inherently complete. However, for those with average or lesser faculties who have not realized this, taking refuge outwardly is very important. Machig said: That is, which of the Three Jewels is oneself?
