All of these are things to be abandoned in the world. The second aspect has three points: Recognizing it as karma and not blaming it; with the elimination of defilements, not regarding it as something to be abandoned; and as cause and effect, not regarding it as a wrong view. The first point is: No matter what unpleasant adverse conditions arise in the continuum, they are all signs that one has accumulated the karma of experiencing adverse conditions in the past and has not accumulated the causes for experiencing favorable conditions. Nothing will come about without karma, and karma will never be wasted. For this mind of emptiness, there is no difference between clean and unclean. Just as the sky has no difference between incense and a rotting corpse. This body composed of the four elements is itself the essence of impurity. It is the owner, the container, the corpse, so it has no clean or unclean. Just as pouring water into water does not dilute it, and adding fire to fire does not burn it. Just as applying black to charcoal does not make it blacker, adding impurity to impurity does not make it more impure. Therefore, both aversion and mixing are established by conceptual thought, and in reality, there is no difference. If one understands this way, the yogi can pacify many attachments and aversions, and the realization of the nature of reality will naturally arise. Machig said: "Regard external conditions as a burden. If you do not regard all phenomena as a burden, you cannot be liberated by the antidote of peace." The third is to cut off the eight worldly concerns and happiness and suffering. This has three points: What adverse conditions to cut off? What antidote to use to cut off? What benefits will arise from cutting off? The first point is: gaining and not gaining, pleasant and unpleasant, fame and infamy, praise and blame, slander and accusation, the noise of the crowd, bad talk, gossip, little faith, disrespect, contempt, lack of respect, false accusations, being despised by everyone, discomfort, displeasure, and so on, all of these are things to be abandoned in the world. The second aspect has three points: Recognizing it as karma and not blaming it; with the elimination of defilements, not regarding it as something to be abandoned; and as cause and effect, not regarding it as a wrong view.

descends, because karma is never wasted. The second point is that the adversities and unfavorable circumstances encountered in this life, the unpleasant experiences in body, speech, and mind, can eliminate all previous bad karma and defilements, and cleanse all the karma that leads to future rebirth in the lower realms. Therefore, one should view them with joy, regard them as necessary, regard them as indispensable, and regard them as kindness. Therefore, the fruits of the hardships endured in the practice of Dharma, such as fatigue, heat and cold, drinking water, taking essence, solitary retreat, and the meaning of the lasso, etc., will be quickly obtained. In the biographies of past accomplished masters, it is also said that accomplishment is attained only through hardship, and it is not said that accomplishment is attained through ease and comfort. Therefore, the occurrence of these adversities in this life is the fruit of practice, so do not regard them as obstacles. Some people regard them as obstacles and hindrances and try to avoid them, but this is only because they have little understanding of the Dharma. The third point is that the result of one's own past causes cannot be prevented by anyone, because it is created by oneself. It is not appropriate to complain or blame others. For example, when the face appears in a mirror, no matter how good or bad it appears, one cannot blame the mirror, because it is the merits and demerits of one's own face that are reflected. Similarly, whatever happiness or suffering one experiences is due to past causes, so one should abandon them at the time of the cause, and not regard them as enemies at the time of the result, nor regard them as faults, nor regard them as stains, but transform them into the path, generate patience, and view them with joy.
