The ignorance that obscures the wisdom of awareness, or self-grasping, is the object to be severed by the wisdom of self-awareness. Because ordinary worldly people do not distinguish between the co-emergent gods and demons, they do not distinguish between virtuous and non-virtuous actions, and thus fall into confusion, becoming the cause of samsara. Therefore, practitioners of Chö should distinguish between the co-emergent gods and demons, and use the ༄༅། །As an antidote to self-grasping, the self-aware wisdom of the cutter should realize selflessness. First of all, from the very beginning, the Dharmakaya of awareness and wisdom and the impurity of ignorance and self-grasping exist without distinction, hence it is called co-emergent. It exists naturally, not created by any cause or condition. There is no way to say where it first came from, so it is born naturally, hence it is called the self-nature co-emergent god and demon. Fifth, there are two kinds of infallible karmic gods and demons: naturally occurring common karma and specifically acting distinct karma. First, the common elements are the four elements, the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn and winter, day and night, birth and death, sickness and health and happiness, and youth and old age and decay. Among them, the wind of the four elements is the light nature of self-generated great movement, which is the basis of all things. Water is the nature of moisture and gathers everything. Fire has the meaning of hot and cold and matures everything. Earth is solid and hard and is the abode of all things. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between the co-emergent gods and demons. That is to say, the blazing light of the five wisdoms endowed with the four wisdoms of co-emergent self-awareness is the antidote to severing ignorance.

Having separated the two, it needs to be cut off. ༄༅། །With the self-aware wisdom that cuts off the antidote to self-grasping, one should realize selflessness. Moreover, from the very beginning, the Dharmakaya of wisdom and the impurity of ignorance and self-grasping exist inseparably, so it is called coemergent. It exists naturally, not created by any cause or condition, and there is no way to say when it first arose, because it is born of its own nature, so it is called the self-natured coemergent deity and demon. Fifth, there are two kinds of infallible karmic deities and demons: naturally occurring common karma and specifically acting individual karma that enters each gate. The first is the common four elements, the four seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, day and night, birth and death, sickness and health, happiness, youth and vigor, and aging and decay. Among them, the wind of the four elements is the nature of great natural movement, light, and the basis of all things. Water is the nature of being moist and wet, and it gathers everything. Fire has the meaning of hot and cold, and it matures everything. Earth is hard and solid, and it is the place of support for all things. Thus, the four elements naturally abide and naturally slowly operate, and are the cause of all desires, so they are called gods. If it shakes violently and becomes very chaotic, it will cause great faults, so it is called a demon. Summer is a god, and winter is a demon. Autumn is a god, and spring is a demon. Day is a god, and night is a demon. Birth is a god, and death is a demon. When the body and mind are calm and happy, it is a god, and when afflicted by illness and uncomfortable and confused, it is a demon. Youth and strength, and the power of karma is very strong, is a god, and aging and decay, and the decline of karma is a demon. These are all universally recognized by worldly people, and are produced by the true and infallible common karma, so they are called common karmic deities and demons. The four elements are produced by the karma accumulated by all sentient beings, or it is the karma of nature, or it is naturally produced.
