Like this, those who slightly favor the white side (the side of goodness) stir up the consciousness of ordinary men and women, causing all worldly people to speak of all good and bad. Furthermore, seeing various different things such as flowers in the untimely winter and newly grown crops, and most non-humans manifesting forms and making many prophecies. Also, seeing rainbows, lights, and the shapes of bodies, they say that those are accomplishments, wealth, gods, and auspiciousness, and fabricate them. Those are called fabricated appearance gods. Similarly, seeing various frightening images such as frogs and toads in the untimely winter, and in the summer, large otters devouring many creatures, seeing fish struggling in dry places, and also, feeling fear and dread towards unpleasant images in the eyes, and other unpleasant things, seeing many different things, they say that those are demons, and because they bring about sins, they fabricate them as demons, so they are called fabricated appearance demons. Although according to worldly views, gods and demons must be accepted, according to the Chö practice, it is not desirable to consider them as gods and demons merely because of appearances, and in reality, they are not called gods and demons merely because of appearances. The gods and demons of appearance are merely fabrications of worldly people. Therefore, the Chö practitioners do not cling to liking and disliking, but abide in the great equanimity, so they cannot cause harm and are liberated in themselves. If the Chö practitioners do not understand this way, and cling to the discrimination of gods and demons merely because of appearances, then they are violating my teachings and abandoning the necessity of Chö, therefore, generate certainty about the meaning and practice it, he said. Fourth, the self-existing, innate gods and demons: In the aspect of the pure appearance of self-awareness, the arising of the five great wisdoms is called gods, and the arising of the five poisons of affliction from the ignorance of self-grasping is called demons. That is to say, from the very beginning, the wisdom of self-awareness, the originally pure, unborn Dharmakaya, and the affliction of ignorance and self-grasping, these two arise simultaneously, awareness and

Because ignorance is combined together, it is called the co-emergent union of gods and demons. Ordinary worldly people do not know such co-emergent gods and demons, and each is obscured by the sudden defilements of ignorance, accumulating non-virtuous deeds and creating countless causes of samsara. Because they are constantly immersed in their karma and afflictions, it is important to know that the root of all faults arises from self-grasping. If one does not examine it with the antidote that makes the light of wisdom extremely clear, one will be confused about the overall meaning, activities, and actions, and will only cling to the phenomena of benefit, harm, good, and bad, regarding them as gods and demons. This is ignorance. The Chögyalpa says that if one does not understand in this way and only clings to the perceived phenomena, giving rise to thoughts of gods and demons, one is violating my teachings and abandoning the necessity of Chö. Therefore, one should generate certainty in the meaning and practice it. Fourth, the naturally co-emergent gods and demons are: In the aspect of the pure appearance of self-awareness, the five great wisdoms arise, which are called gods; from the ignorance of self-grasping, the five poisonous afflictions arise, which are called demons. That is to say, from the very beginning, the wisdom of self-awareness, the originally pure, unborn Dharmakaya, and the afflictions of ignorance and self-grasping, these two arise together, and knowledge and ignorance are combined together, so it is called the co-emergent union of gods and demons. Ordinary worldly people do not know such co-emergent gods and demons, and each is obscured by the sudden defilements of ignorance, accumulating non-virtuous deeds and creating countless causes of samsara. If one does not examine it with the antidote that makes the light of wisdom extremely clear, one will be confused about the overall meaning, activities, and actions, and will only cling to the phenomena of benefit, harm, good, and bad, regarding them as gods and demons. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between the co-emergent gods and demons. That is to say, the radiance of the five wisdoms that possess the four wisdoms of co-emergent self-awareness is the antidote to cutting through ignorance, and self-
