Whatever thoughts arise in the mind are like waves arising in the ocean even without anyone stirring it. When any thoughts arise in the mind, do not try to alter them, but leave them as they are, and they will be effortlessly subdued. Abandoning the grasping of the mind, let the body and mind be still and relaxed, and the unobstructed demon will be liberated on its own. The demon of joy and pride refers to feeling joy and pride in whatever one's mind clings to, and experiencing great delight in the heart. The causes of this are worldly gain, respect, fame, perfect wealth, as well as gathering many attendants, seeing the face of the yidam deity, subduing ghosts and spirits with the power of speech, pacifying sickness and pain, generating special experiences in the mind, having clear dreams, and developing clairvoyance. Experiencing happiness and power blazing in the three doors of body, speech, and mind, gods, demons, and humans gathering involuntarily, offering food, wealth, and possessions, and receiving immeasurable respect and service. Feeling joy and pride in all these, and giving rise to arrogance, which becomes an obstacle on the path to liberation. This is the demon of joy and pride. Therefore, no matter what qualities arise or appear, in the face of the non-duality of appearance and mind, do not cling to those qualities as qualities. For the mind that is joyful and proud, and those things that become the objects of the mind, there is not even a hair's breadth of reality or permanence. Therefore, know all of that to be like illusions and dreams. Practice like dreams and illusions, and abide in emptiness, free from all extremes of elaboration, along with the mind that is proud of all qualities, as well as its objects. In such a great emptiness free from all extremes, contemplate all phenomena as dreams and illusions. If you take the path with dream-like and illusion-like conduct, you will cut off the demon of joy and pride, which is like an illusion, and dream-like benefit for beings will arise. The demon of joy and pride refers to feeling joy and pride in whatever one's mind clings to, and experiencing great delight in the heart.

Ah. When the three doors of body, speech, and mind experience bliss and power, and gods, demons, and humans gather involuntarily, offering food, wealth, and possessions, and providing immeasurable respect and service, becoming delighted and joyful with these, arrogance arises, becoming an obstacle on the path to liberation. This is the demon of joy and delight. Therefore, no matter what qualities arise or appear, do not cling to them as qualities on the level of duality between appearance and mind. Because there is not even a hair's breadth of true existence in the mind that is joyful and delighted and the objects that become the objects of the mind, know that all of this is like illusion and dream. Practice like a dream and illusion, and the mind that is arrogant towards all qualities, along with its objects, rest in emptiness, free from all extremes of elaboration. In such a great emptiness free from extremes, meditate on all phenomena as dream and illusion, and if you take the dream-like illusion as the path, then the demon of joy and delight, which is like an illusion, will be cut off, and dream-like benefit for beings will arise. The so-called "demon of pride" is: The root of all three demons lies in pride, so cutting off the root of the mind is extremely important. Pride is said to be self-grasping. Because the root of all faults, the cause of wandering in samsara, is caused by self-grasping, it acts like a demon, not allowing one to attain liberation. Therefore, it is also called the demon of the mind, or the demon of self-grasping. Because grasping at what is without self as self, the mind becomes afflicted. All good and bad thoughts that arise in the mind are grasped by conceptual thought and clung to as true, this is what is called pride. That is, the object of pride and the one who is capable of pride. Or, by realizing with the wisdom of self-awareness that all internal and external phenomena that grasp at "I" and "mine" are not truly established, the root of clinging to truth is cut off from the object. Without losing pride in all good and bad thoughts, free from all extremes of elaboration of mind that thinks and desires, reaching the "Bunne Wa" that is not created by the mind, the "Bole Shig Gewa" where self-grasping dissolves, the "Sing Gewa" that cannot be shaken by the causes of affliction, and the "Shepa Sal Lewa" that is free from grasping at both inner and outer.
