of attachment. Cut off the attachment of the unobstructed mind. Cut off the attachment of attachment and aversion. Cut off the attachment of pride and self-grasping. Thus it is said. The four maras that obstruct the ground and path are: the mara of view is sectarianism, the mara of meditation is dullness and agitation, the mara of conduct is hypocrisy, and the mara of result is hope and doubt. If you cling to duality, you will never be liberated from samsara, no matter how hard you try, so meditation itself is a mara. The previous thought has ceased, the subsequent thought has not arisen, and the naked moment of present awareness is not defiled by any experience or realization, that is the Dharmakaya, the view, the meditation, the conduct, and the result. Therefore, know it and abide in it, free from pride and attachment. Do not gather it inward, do not scatter it outward, do not discriminate in between. Let awareness abide nakedly. Abandon all effort of meditation, and do not let subsequent consciousness chase after external conditions, but keep awareness sharp, like lighting a lamp in the darkness, and the maras will naturally be pacified, liberated, purified, and awakened in their own place, and all dharmas will return to the end. Thus it is said. The second is the root and branches, of which the first part has four: the mara of the aggregates, the mara of the son of the gods, the mara of the afflictions, and the mara of the Lord of Death. The first is the contaminated aggregates of appropriation that arise from one's own cause due to the power of the afflictions. The second is the Other-Emptied Wielder of Power, called Joyful Delight, who is the master of the desire realm. He binds the garland of distraction and grasper-grasped to the crown of the heads of practitioners. The four inner maras are: Attachment to loving friends and hatred to enemies; hope in gods and doubt in demons; attachment and clinging to one's own body and enjoyment; being bound by good thoughts and not generating special qualities. Etc. Therefore, know that the mind that clings to duality, such as enemies and friends, gods and demons, is a mara, and realize that all dharmas are equal, and let awareness abide vast and boundless. To body and enjoyment Being too precious and clinging, clinging to permanence, clinging to self-importance, clinging to goodness, and the pride of thinking "I", etc., all should be known as maras. As above, let awareness abide in a vast and boundless state. The four secret maras are: obstructed and unobstructed joy
