Then, it is certain that there is nothing to meditate on. Thus, originally pure, primordial, and pristine are synonymous. Originally, the mind itself is pristine, and to rest upon that, and, When there is no meditation, no contemplation, and nothing to do in the mind, those of small intellect are frightened by the profound reality of the primordial and meditate on many fabricated things. Some gather many scriptural and logical justifications and contemplate. Some regard emptiness as supreme. Some hold onto a deep state of quiescence and trust in many wrong views and meditations, not knowing that it is originally empty. If one meditates on something like emptiness, then the result will only be emptiness. All of these are not even close to the profound meaning. The great Lord, an emanation of Manjushri, said: "If one is afraid of the profound reality, and holds the fabricated, superficial emptiness as supreme, may one completely abandon all wrong views and evil thoughts, and realize that all phenomena are originally empty." This statement is of utmost importance. When resting in this way, even if thoughts arise suddenly, understand them to be like water and waves, sky and clouds. Now, to summarize, all meditation is ruined by clinging to duality. Whether it is emptiness, awareness, or remembrance. Likewise, for all good and bad, there is emptiness and what is emptied, awareness and what is aware, remembrance and what is remembered. Virtue has what is to be accomplished and what accomplishes, non-virtue has what is to be abandoned and what abandons. All of this dualistic mind is dualistic clinging. Meditating on existence is mind, meditating on non-existence is also mind. In short, all meditation is inseparable from mind and dualistic clinging, therefore, there is no opportunity for liberation. Thus, when resting in the naturally pure state of mind, free from the extremes of elaboration, There is no object to be meditated upon, no self of the meditator, and no result of meditation. In the primordial state of reality, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana are equally placed in the unborn realm of mind, like the center of the sky. Machig said: This view of original purity, free from extremes, is not comparable to a hundred sacred teachings. If the other shore is not seen when looking, then it is certain that there is nothing to meditate on. Thus, originally pure, primordial, and pristine are synonymous.

Where is it? Originally, the mind itself is primordially pure. To rest upon that, as it is said, When not meditating, not analyzing, and doing nothing in the mind, those of small intellect become frightened of the profound, primordial reality and meditate on many fabricated things. Some gather many scriptural and logical justifications and analyze. Some hold emptiness as supreme. Some hold the mind in a deep state of quiescence and rely on many wrong views and meditations, not knowing that it is primordially empty. If one meditates on something like emptiness, then the result will only be emptiness. Those are not even close to the meaning of profoundness. The great Lord Tsongkhapa, an emanation of Manjushri, said: "Frightened by the meaning of the profound reality, holding fabricated, superficial emptiness as supreme, abandoning all wrong views, may we realize that all phenomena are primordially empty!" This statement seems to be the most important. When resting in that way, even if thoughts arise suddenly, know them to be like water and waves, sky and clouds. Now, to summarize, all meditation is ruined by clinging to duality. Empty a little, aware a little, remember a little. Likewise, for all good and bad, empty the object of emptiness, empty the agent of emptiness; be aware of the object of awareness, be aware of the agent of awareness; remember the object of memory, remember the agent of memory; accomplish the object of accomplishment, accomplish the agent of accomplishment; abandon the object of abandonment, abandon the agent of abandonment. All of this duality in the mind is clinging to duality. Meditating on existence is mind, meditating on non-existence is also mind. In short, all meditation is inseparable from mind and duality, so there is no chance of finding liberation. As it is said: "Ultimate truth is not the object of mind; mind is considered to be conventional truth." So what should one do? The Chöd and Mahamudra do not meditate on emptiness, nor do they meditate on non-thought. They do not meditate on any support, such as good thoughts. They do not abandon any negative thoughts. They do not even do anything in the mind. Even thinking of abandoning dualistic mind is dualistic. So, does it rest in emptiness itself? Or does it rest in non-thought? Do qualities arise? Do faults arise? Does it abide? Does it move? Do the five senses function? Do they not function? Whatever happens, let it happen. If one is free from duality, there is no way that wisdom will not spontaneously arise. When the clouds clear, the sun...
