"Wisdom does not perish." Thus it is said, and it is also explained in the commentaries. As it says in the Uttaratantra Shastra: "The body of the perfect Buddha is for the sake of benefiting others, and because the Suchness is without difference, and because there is lineage, all sentient beings constantly possess the Tathagatagarbha." Also, as it says in the Sutra Samuccaya: "The Suchness is in all, pure because there is no difference. Therefore, the Tathagata-nature, all beings possess that essence." And so on, it is extensively taught. Therefore, it is certain that all sentient beings are the cause of Buddhahood. The noble protector, the venerable Nagarjuna, also said: "Like a lamp placed inside a vase, it does not appear even a little. Likewise, abiding within the vase of afflictions, the realm of Dharma is not seen." And: "If there is a realm, then by acting, the Sala tree will be seen. If there is no realm, then by acting, only afflictions will arise." Also, as it says in the root text and commentary of Jowo Je's Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment: "Furthermore, if the Mahayana Madhyamaka view is firmly established, then there is no one who is not a vessel of the Mahayana. All sentient beings are of the same lineage, that is, possessing the Tathagatagarbha. Although their nature is completely pure, because they are afflicted by sudden afflictions, they appear to be impure. However, this is not the case for the Tathagatas. The greatly wise ones, for the Tathagatas, should make it manifestly accessible like an Amalaka fruit in the palm of their hand." Also, as it says in the Vajra Heart Commentary: "Great wisdom dwells in the body, pervading all things. Although it dwells in the body, it is not born from the body. Just as when a vase is broken, the sky is not destroyed. Likewise, although the body is destroyed, wisdom does not perish." Thus it is said, and it is also explained in the commentaries. Therefore, the Tathagata-nature, all beings possess that essence."

Thus, it is widely said that all sentient beings are definitely the cause of Buddhahood. The glorious protector, the noble Nagarjuna, also said: Just as a lamp is placed inside a vase, its light is not visible at all. Similarly, when afflictions reside within the vase, the realm of Dharma cannot be seen. And: If there is essence, then by working, one will see ghee, butter, and cream. If there is no essence, then by working, only afflictions will arise. Furthermore, in the root commentary of Jowo Rinpoche's Lamp for the Path, it says: Or, if the Great Vehicle Madhyamaka's tenets are firmly established, then there is no one who is not a vessel of the Great Vehicle. All sentient beings are of the same lineage, possessing the essence of the Tathagata. And Nagarjuna said: Because the realm of Dharma is without distinction, the principal one has no sectarian divisions. The three vehicles you taught are for the purpose of leading sentient beings in. Thus, sentient beings and Buddhas are shown to be without distinction in their essence. The holy one said: The great self-arisen ground is the root of all samsara and nirvana. In the nature of appearance and emptiness, the extremes of awareness and unawareness are held. Conceptual grasping and the apprehended are elaborated with names. I, self, and afflictions are bound by objects. Driven by karma, one abides in samsara. I, self, and afflictions are bound by objects. Driven by karma, one abides in samsara. From the result of wandering in the lower realms, the iron hook of grasping at oneself is purified by compassion at the end of karma. For as long as a moment, one abides in the true ultimate state. Through the power of purification and great ability, the power of pure karma, aspiration, and strength, one finds the means to be liberated into great enlightenment. Furthermore, it says: Without being shown, it cannot be understood. Without searching, no one can know. By connecting skillful means and wisdom, the Sugata...
