Therefore, one should know the movement from the state of abiding, and grasp the self-nature of abiding and movement from the state of movement, which is the time of oneness. Those who recognize abiding and movement, some call it self-awareness, some call it the wisdom of individual discernment, and some say it is attention. In general, if one practices shamatha and vipassanā separately, then in practicing shamatha, distinguishing between sinking and excitement, practicing through the nine stages of mind, there are various methods such as practicing without wind, practicing with wind, and so on. However, this is a method of combining shamatha and vipassanā without distinguishing between them. One should understand the unique method of the key points of the instructions that lead to emptiness. Others are methods that lead to appearance. Therefore, what is called shamatha is the state of mind being focused on one object, whether there is an object or not, free from movement and distraction, clear and bright, naturally luminous. It is not like losing consciousness and the five senses being closed off. What is called vipassanā is the state of abiding in the nature of clarity and emptiness, in a state of being able to abide, able to move, and without clinging. As it is said in the *Bodhisattva Piṭaka*: The shamatha of a bodhisattva is correct meditation, but correctness does not abide in the concept of tranquility. Vipassanā is seeing the view, but the view itself is not seen. Whoever sees in this way sees correctly. Thus, if one guards with mindfulness and awareness, then whether emptiness experiences, bliss experiences, non-conceptualization, and the emptiness of the body without sensation arise, or whatever experiences of appearance such as transparent mountains and rocks, smoke, etc., arise, one should not have any hope or fear. Whether it arises or not, one should remain in the natural state. Furthermore, when thoughts arise and are recognized, the thoughts to be abandoned and the mindfulness that abandons them, like a tiger and a leopard meeting, cannot last for long. Therefore, there is no need to make an effort to apply antidotes, but each calms down in its own place, like an ocean without waves, without negation or affirmation. In this case, one should know the movement from the state of abiding, and grasp the self-nature of abiding and movement from the state of movement, which is the time of oneness.

Even if there is (co-emergent wisdom), this is a method of not distinguishing between windless calm and insight, but combining them. One should know the unique method of cutting through the key points of the instructions that lead to emptiness. Others are methods of leading to appearance. Therefore, calm abiding is said to be the state of being single-pointed in mind, without any object of focus, free from wandering and thoughts, clear and bright, and vividly clear. It is not like losing consciousness and the five senses ceasing to function. Insight is the action of abiding in the state of knowing the self-nature of clarity and emptiness, being able to abide, being able to move, and abiding without attachment. As it is said in the Bodhisattva Pitaka: The calm abiding of a Bodhisattva is correct meditation, and correct meditation does not abide in the concept of peace. Insight is seeing, it is watching, and it does not even see the seeing itself. Whoever sees in this way, sees correctly. Also, after recognizing self-nature, do not eliminate dullness and agitation, and do not engage in excessive analysis of abiding and moving. As Machig (Machig Labdrön) said: Dullness is the way the Dharmakaya abides, and agitation is the self-luminosity of awareness. Therefore, extreme agitation is the blazing of the power of wisdom, so do not stop it. Jetsun Mila (Milarepa) said: Be sure to determine that practice is not to eliminate the faults of dullness and agitation. If practice is to eliminate the faults of dullness and agitation, it is like lighting a lamp during the day. This was the instruction to Dakpo Moonlight Youth (Gampopa). Similarly, the conceptual thoughts of the five aggregates, such as form and feeling, do not need to be accepted or rejected. Whatever appears is self-liberated. As it is said in the Heart Sutra: Form is emptiness, etc. And in the Mother Sutra it says: कौशिक (kauśika, Devanagari script, kauśika, कौशिक, Kausika: Indra), do not seek Prajnaparamita from form, nor should you seek Prajnaparamita apart from form. Why is that? Because form is not Prajnaparamita, and there is no Prajnaparamita apart from form. Therefore, do not be hostile to enemies and friends who should be abandoned and cultivated. In short, it is important to know that what should be abandoned and what should be cultivated are inseparable, without duality, simply by recognizing the self-nature of conceptual thoughts. The one who recognizes must also know that it is unborn. These are introductions to profound meaning, grasping from the root, recognizing self-nature is relaxation, and self-nature is said to be the moon and three.
