So, the way to search for the mind should be like this: In the past, wandering in the three realms, wandering in the six realms, experiencing all kinds of joys and sorrows, What is the reason for this? It is because one's own mind is deluded. Now this delusion must be eradicated. It is called "mind," it is called "awareness," it is called "consciousness," it is called "wisdom," although many names are given to thoughts, But in reality, there is only one mind-essence. Its nature is many changes, happiness, roughness, tension, recalling what should not be recalled, generating all kinds of thoughts. Therefore, there is no way not to search for it. Meditation is done on the mind. The mind is in oneself. If its root is not thoroughly understood, meditation will not arise. For example, no matter how skilled a craftsman is, if there is no material, he cannot create. No matter how skilled a cook is, if there are no ingredients, he cannot cook. Similarly, even if the lama is proficient in Dharma, the instructions are profound, and the conduct is upright, if the disciple does not search for his own mind, the lama cannot guide him, so the mind must be searched for. The reason for searching: Because the root of all joys and sorrows is the mind, the mind must be searched for. Because becoming a Buddha is done on the mind, the mind must be searched for. If the disciple does not search for the mind, the lama cannot guide him, so the mind must be searched for. How to search for the mind? Starting from tonight, practice these three questions for seven days: Where does the mind reside? This is the first question. What is its shape? This is the second question. What is its color? This is the third question. First, the mind generates all kinds of thoughts, even those that should not be thought. Where do these thoughts come from? They come from oneself. Where does it reside in the middle? It resides in oneself. Where does it disappear in the end? It disappears in oneself. Therefore, there is no other place besides one's own body. From the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, Search for where it is. Separate the head and limbs to search. Break down the body into parts to search. Is it on the skin? In the flesh? In the bones? In the internal organs? In the heart? In the blood and lymph? In the blood vessels and tendons? On the bed and seat, in the seams of the clothes? See where it is. The shape of the mind What is it like? Feeling happiness and unhappiness, feeling pain and pleasure, experiencing birth, death, sickness, etc., are all
