Gods of samsara and gods beyond the world are two. Gods beyond also include those who have transcended both the cause and effect of samsara and the state of samsara, and those who have not transcended the state of samsara. Among them, the former, such as the Great Vajradhara, the Buddhas of the ten directions, the Great Mother, and the Victorious Amitabha, etc., who reside in the Akaniṣṭha Pure Land with their respective retinues, are gods who have transcended both the worldly state and cause and effect. In this Saha world, such as the Bhagavan Victorious Shakyamuni Buddha Himself, as well as Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, Bodhisattva Maitreya, Vajrapani, Manjushri, and other Bodhisattvas, are gods who have not transcended the worldly state but have transcended the karma and cause and effect of samsara. Worldly gods include the formless realm, the form realm, and the desire realm gods, and these are called worldly gods in essence. Both of these are also called gods of the nature of the state. Ghosts are the well-known formless arrogant beings in the world, as well as the cruel, powerful, and capable of displaying great magical powers, and those who harm many sentient beings with form, such as Yama, demons, the fierce eight classes, etc., who possess harmful intentions, are called ghosts. Because in the minds of worldly people, at all times and in all places, these harmful beings such as the eight classes are truly existent, they are called ghosts of the nature of the state. If benefiting is called a god, then the eight classes can also benefit, because all worldly people can offer them food, wealth, and merit, so the ghost eight classes are also gods. If harming is a ghost, then if the ordinary worldly gods are displeased, they will also cause harm, so those gods should also be ghosts. Therefore, according to worldly customs, those who benefit are made gods, and those who harm are made ghosts, the worldly gods of the state are regarded as निश्चित gods, and the eight classes of the state are regarded as निश्चित ghosts. But the rules of the Chöd tradition should be understood in reverse.

Also, relatives who are loving and caring think that I should not go to the mountains to practice, because food and clothing will be scarce, diseases and sufferings will come, and there will be no friends and affection, which will bring afflictions. So they say, "Stay at home, we will provide good conditions, you cannot abandon us." In this way, they become obstacles on the path to liberation and demons that hinder virtuous deeds. Therefore, know that those who are loving and helpful are demons and evil spirits. For those who hate and harm oneself, one should cultivate compassion, thinking of it as the karmic cycle of previous lives, and cultivate joy, thinking that they are the Dharma protectors on the path to enlightenment. One should not be attached to worldly gods either, for if one is attached, one will become a ghost wandering in samsara. One should not have even a hair's breadth of hope or reliance on worldly gods. For the eight classes of beings and so on, one must firmly grasp them with compassion, surround them as attendants, and cherish them, because relying on them can lead to virtuous deeds, so they are gods. Therefore, for those who harm oneself, one should cultivate loving-kindness, without regard for body and life, give for the sake of those who harm oneself, and not be separated from compassion. This is the view of the Chöpa tradition regarding gods and demons. As for the gods and demons in terms of essence, they are merely nominal designations in conventional truth, or even if they exist as they are in reality, they are merely appearances, and one should not cling to them as truly existent, but know that this is the ultimate truth of selflessness. Third, the gods and demons of perceived delusion are: worldly earth gods, shamans, monks, nuns, etc., those who slightly favor the white side, stir up the consciousness of ordinary men and women, and make them speak of all the good and bad deeds of worldly people.
