Thereafter, through the practice of the Five Noble Mothers, common accomplishments were attained after fourteen days. After a month, the faces of the Five Deities of Thukdrup were seen, and the four empowerments were fully bestowed in the wisdom secret mandala. Many prophecies were made, including taming beings in Tibet. Finally, it dissolved into light and merged into its own heart. After about a month, the Holy Mother Tara appeared and prophesied in Tibet, merging into her own heart. After that, on the third day of the waxing moon, Lord Amitabha prophesied, and later ༄༅། །went to, whatever good or bad thoughts arise in the mind, all are grasped by discrimination and clung to as true, which is called 'pride'. Or, this is the object to be refuted and the mind that refutes the object. Or, all phenomena, internal and external, that are clung to as 'I' and 'mine' are regarded as truly existent. When they are known by the wisdom of self-awareness to be non-existent, the root of clinging to truth arises from the object. Without losing mind to all good and bad thoughts, one is free from all mental elaborations of ideation and aspiration, and a state of emptiness that is not fabricated by the mind appears, a state of shattered ego-grasping and open-mindedness, a state of clarity that cannot be shaken by the causes of affliction, a clear awareness that is free from the grasping of inner and outer, a clear wisdom that has no attachment to anything. This is being free from the pride of clinging to truth, and meeting the meaning of emptiness like the sky. This is called 'cutting the demon of mind'. Therefore, if the demon of pride is cut, all the demons arising from afflictions are cut. Therefore, as long as there is self, there is also demon; as long as there is no self, there is also no demon. Because there is no self, there is no object to be cut, no fear, and no dread. Therefore, this wisdom that is free from extremes, wisdom expands in all that is to be known. Liberation from the four demons is called the result. That is, the types of the four demons, and the differences in how one is liberated in one's own place by cutting the four demons, and ultimately attains the ultimate fruit, are briefly explained. May Ganga, the son with karmic connections, and others who are fortunate, keep these words and meanings in mind, quickly exert effort, take them to heart, and expand the mind of benefiting others! Thus it was said. Ganga asked again.

Q: Machig, are these four maras cut off at once, or are there differences in order? Are there differences in the order of the four maras? A: Machig replied: Son, the two, the obstructing mara and the non-obstructing mara, are the maras of the causal time, the prideful mara is the mara of the path time, and the joyful mara is the mara of the fruition time. That is to say, beings who have not attained the ground, who are in the accumulation path and below the joining path, are all worldly paths. At this time, the body has great power, and the mind does not have great power. Therefore, worldly sufferings such as diseases come involuntarily and without freedom. There is no clairvoyance or pure illusion, because there is a real attachment to the characteristics of real things such as the four elements. Therefore, in the accumulation path and the joining path, it is difficult to truly cut off the obstructing mara, so at this time, one must practice on the mind. When the first ground is attained, the mind has great power, and with the power of obtaining clairvoyance and illusion, one can truly cut off the obstructing mara, that is, all the characteristics of real things such as the four elements, poison, weapons, and cliffs. At this time, all things such as the body are unreal, so they are separated from all the characteristics of real things, but before reaching the Buddha ground, one must practice austerities, no matter how much austerity one practices, the body and mind will not feel pain. Below the joining path, one must cut off the non-obstructing mara. That is, the illusions of gods and demons, diseases, sufferings, attachment, aversion, the eight worldly dharmas, and other mental feelings. Even if these have not attained the ground, if one has great antidotal power, one can cut them off, and one must definitely cut them off. That is, from the beginning of entering the cutting off, the self-grasping that arises together with the mind of ignorance, the root of all faults, the source of all conceptual thoughts, the object that confuses the mind and generates all afflictions, this mind of ignorant darkness, must be cut off by the wisdom of self-awareness and pride, that is, from the beginning of entering the Dharma.
