It is said that some people consider the view to be emptiness, but their actions are attached to reality. This leads to errors in view and action, and it is unknown where it will end. Some people explain without having received the empowerment of a Vajra Master, planting seeds for others without having taken root themselves, introducing others without understanding the key points themselves, speaking of realization to others without having generated experience themselves, blessing others without having the ability themselves, and making presumptuous judgments about the Dharma without having listened to it. There are many such cases. Both the master and the disciple are in a state of dryness and boredom, and are ridiculed by the deities with wisdom eyes. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize that in order to benefit others, one must first mature oneself. In order to follow the path of benefiting others, one needs a qualified master who can enable others to mature, not just a superficial one, but one who possesses eight qualities. What are these eight? Like a perfect vase filled with water, the master completely matures the disciple through empowerment, this is the first. Like a skilled wrestler, one has exhausted the hearing of the scriptures and tantras, this is the second. Like a skilled archer, the root of the instructions has taken root, this is the third. Like extracting gold threads from the corners of gold, extracting practice from the hardships of asceticism, this is the fourth. Like putting salt on the tongue, one has achieved through the experience of view and meditation of the scriptures and tantras, this is the fifth. Like a mother not abandoning her beloved child, one possesses the compassion of loving-kindness, this is the sixth. Like a doctor who can identify accumulated diseases, the appearance of dependent origination arises, this is the seventh. Like holding a myrobalan in the palm of one's hand, activities manifest, this is the eighth. It is said that a master who possesses these eight qualities is needed. Becoming a teacher of others based on oral transmission is all madness. Atisha said: In Tibet, it is possible to find disciples who have received the four empowerments, but it is impossible to find a master who possesses the four perfections. Dampa said: Seeing Tsukton explaining the Dharma, Tibetans like Tibetan masters, and if they are liberated themselves, that would be even better. It is very rare to have sufficient qualifications to become a teacher of others. The reason why there are few accomplished ones in Tibet is due to this. Dampa said: There is no need for Tibetans to attain accomplishment. It is said that this is how it was answered, someone considers the view to be emptiness, and act

It is said that clinging to things as they are will lead to being trapped in the snare of delusion due to faulty views and practices. Some people give teachings without having received the empowerment of a Vajra Master, planting seeds for others without having roots themselves, introducing others to the essential points without understanding them themselves, speaking of realization to others without having had any experience themselves, blessing others without having the ability themselves, and judging the Dharma without having listened to it. This is very common. Both teacher and student are in a state of dry barrenness, and are considered to be ridiculed by the wisdom-eyed deities. This shows that in order to benefit others, one must first ripen oneself. As the Vajra Song says: "Like the udder of a buffalo, filled with milk, it is foolish not to milk it. Likewise, by transforming the mind with tenets, the three doors of body, speech, and mind should not remain in a mundane state, because there is no transformation. If one cannot accomplish one's own benefit, how can one accomplish the benefit of others?" As the Vajra Song says: "Like the udder of a buffalo, filled with milk, it is foolish not to milk it. Likewise, by transforming the mind with tenets, the three doors of body, speech, and mind should not remain in a mundane state, because there is no transformation. If one cannot accomplish one's own benefit, how can one accomplish the benefit of others?" Eighth, this explains that if one does not differentiate between samsara and nirvana in the precious human body, one will be lost. If one does not escape from samsara this time, there will be no time for liberation. In the past, even if one had taken more human bodies than there are dust particles on Mount Meru, it would have been meaningless, because one could not escape from samsara. Because one could not sever the connection of karma, one wandered in the six realms. Like a bee trapped in a sealed jar, flying day and night, it cannot escape from the jar. Just as effort there is futile, we, due to not having broken the shell of ignorance, are like a bee flying day and night. Although we are familiar with many different phenomena, just as the bee cannot escape from the jar, we cannot transcend the three realms. Just as the bee does not escape from the jar, and the body and mind are always in suffering, so long as beings do not transcend the monastery of existence, they will always...
