Because there is no renunciation from samsara. Even if one understands the Dharma, one does not reduce the afflictions in one's own mind, so one wanders in samsara. The key to that matter is that the final result is not combined with (practice), because one's mind has not been transformed from desire. Secondly, one cannot understand the key without accumulating merit, and this is determined by self-deception. Those without merit wander in samsara, and all those who pursue desires do not understand that this is an instruction, (they) say. It is said that the holy one was generally dissatisfied with the translators. Dog translators, fox translators, there are no Tibetan translators with subsequent attainment (wisdom) after meditative equipoise. It is said that (he) said this. That is because his intention was that: those fortunate ones who want to attain liberation, the initial foundation must be transformed. It is necessary to have something like the alchemy of turning iron into gold. Even if one understands the Dharma, one's own mind still remains in the state of ordinary people, and one's behavior follows worldly people, such people do not have the fortune to transform their minds in this life. Those who want to enter the gate of practice need something like encountering a magnet on the middle path. Even if one understands the Dharma, one's own mind still acts in error, one does not put it into practice, because there is no renunciation from samsara, so there is no fortune. Those who want to attain peaceful nirvana need something like soldering tin on iron that will never turn back in the end. Even if one understands the Dharma, one does not reduce the afflictions in one's own mind, and those who have worldly attachments do not have the fortune to transform their minds from desire. In this way, due to the three causes of having no fortune, the net of existence will not be destroyed. Even if one understands the Dharma, one's own mind has not surpassed ordinary people, so one wanders in samsara. What is the root cause of that matter? It is because the initial foundation has not been transformed, and one cannot transform one's mind in this life. Even if one understands the Dharma, one's own mind still acts in error, so one wanders in samsara. The root cause of that matter is that one does not grasp the middle path, because there is no renunciation from samsara. Even if one understands the Dharma, one does not reduce the afflictions in one's own mind, so one wanders in samsara. The key to that matter is that the final result is not combined with (practice), because one's mind has not been transformed from desire. In general, among a group as numerous as the stars without fortune, there are few like the moon with fortune. On the basis of a flawed foundation, adding the error of the path, all of this makes the holy one's teachings mediocre. One does not understand that the spoken words are the key instructions, but instead determines them by self-deception.

Oh! Third, this refers to those who, being ignorant, do not recognize the incarnate body. Among them, there are many baseless Acharyas who, when asked if they are like the holy Buddha, know nothing about it. Those who come to Tibet from southern Nepal pay little attention to the Dharma and are more focused on pursuing desires, thus feeling proud. Fourth, what does it mean that different kinds obscure the light of the supreme? The answer to this is that there are many Aruras, but the completely victorious one is rare. It is said that this illustrates the meaning with a metaphor: There are many kinds of Arura, such as the fleshy type like Olse, the sharp-beaked type like Kuba, the Ghata type like Bongdo Tse, the black type like Bolma, the Bilva type like Azha, the egg type like Zati, and the Lalandaka type like Tsore, etc., totaling eighteen kinds. Among these kinds, the particularly excellent one, called the completely victorious Arura, possesses many beneficial qualities. It is rare because it does not grow in Jambudvipa; it is rare because it can only be found by Rakshasas and cannot be found by others; it is rare because it cannot be bought with money; it is rare because if someone possesses it, it is considered very amazing. In general, within a group like unblessed stars, the blessed moon is rare. Adding a wrong path on a wrong foundation, all of this leads to the holy one's teachings becoming ordinary. They do not understand that spoken words are key teachings, but instead solve problems by hiding themselves. Third, this refers to those who, being ignorant, do not recognize the incarnate body.
