Because experience does not arise in the mind, it is called unfortunate. Dharma without experience in the mind is merely a form, hence unfortunate. If superimposition is not cut off by realization, the Dharma that is known will not become the path. Because there is no delusion, it is unfortunate. As long as delusion is not dispelled, self-appearance will not cease, and therefore one cannot be separated from the cause of samsara, and one cannot attain enlightenment, so it is unfortunate. A lineage that cannot give rise to certainty is unfortunate. When speaking of the qualities of the fruit, saying, "Is that really true, or is it false?" such a person cannot accept the truth, so it is unfortunate. The individual who is the basis lacks favorable conditions and cannot enter the ranks of happiness and well-being. Even if one enters practice, one cannot reach the end in any aspect. Sometimes grasping this, sometimes grasping that, changing the direction of practice, one cannot encounter the signs of the path and the stone bones. Practice becomes erratic, and therefore the desired object cannot be manifested. Because the beginning is wrong, later it becomes the cause of non-accomplishment. That is the root of demons, referring to using a fathom's worth of effort to compensate for a finger's worth of laziness. Such a person is one who rises from the seat without tasting the flavor. A person who hopes to achieve something through wrong learning cannot grasp wisdom. There is no need for armor that does not match the result. It is important not to break the chisel during practice.
