The holy one said: Tellele. Many men's virility has declined, and there is no way to reverse it. However, one is going to Tushita (དགའ་ལྡན།). So it was said. At that time, Zhang Drochungba passed away. Thus, the stain of vows seemed to have affected others. For teachers and students, it is very important to examine the vessel and essence of vows. In the Secret General Tantra, it says: The "secret" of secret mantra is not that there is any fault in the Dharma itself, but for those with small minds and wisdom insufficient, it is kept secret by cutting off with skillful means. If both the teacher and the disciple have broken their vows equally, the hero should first examine the characteristics of the teacher and the disciple. So it was said. Sixth, this is the effort to deliberately practice for obstacles. It is said that Mo (མོས།) was not conquered by the eighteen obstacles, so adding four more, it was conquered by twenty-two obstacles. This is because, both general and specific There are two kinds of situations. This act of Mo is considered special, and it is aimed at Dre Gom (འབྲེ་སྒོམ།). Obstacles are spoken of in general, if all eighteen are complete, it will not go beyond the realm of demons. Those should all be abandoned. The eighteen are: losing respect for the lama, this is the first. Taking and rejecting deities, this is the second. Getting angry at vajra brothers, this is the third. Killing one's own mind, this is the fourth. Abandoning compassion, this is the fifth. Discouraging those with faith, this is the sixth. Having doubts about profound meanings, this is the seventh. Belittling other schools, this is the eighth. Holding one's own view as supreme, this is the ninth. Mixing desire into practice, this is the tenth. Saying meditation experiences are nonsense, this is the eleventh. Slandering the refuge, this is the twelfth. Faith is lukewarm, this is the thirteenth. Effort is intermittent, this is the fourteenth. Being disgusted with the signs of the path, this is the fifteenth. Delaying becomes laziness, this is the sixteenth. Treating practice as food, this is the seventeenth. Getting up from the seat without experiencing the taste, this is the eighteenth. Although these are many, they were not conquered, so four more were added to suppress them. What are the four? First, the cherished treasure is stolen, this is the first additional one. Not telling others what is hidden, this is the second additional one. Secret leaking out, this is the third half. Giving profound meaning to those who are not yet ripe, this is the fourth. Adding these four, it is conquered with twenty-two. This determines the causes and conditions of obstacles.

one can truly recognize it. Just like that, It is also said in the Ornament of Precious Accumulation: One should not make strong vows that one has not experienced oneself; one should not attain enlightenment through asceticism without mastering the excellent methods. Abandoning the preparation for meditation, lacking patience for the signs of the path, praying to the deities to cut off obstacles, and so on. This points out the root of obstacles. Thus, the sixteenth chapter on this is finished. Now is the seventeenth chapter, which explains that the value of benefiting the unpredestined is small. The venerable Milarepa gave teachings clearly to some, but chose to remain silent to most. Someone asked: Why is that? He replied: It is because the conditions are not in harmony. Asked again: What kind of conditions are not in harmony? He replied: The blind who stare with wide eyes but do not see the suffering of samsara; the fools who only care about the pleasures of this life but will have nothing in the next; the heartless who cannot bear even a little suffering now but hope to endure the suffering of hell; those who say that if this life is happy, it doesn't matter what happens in the next life—it is futile to speak to such people. Next, it is said: If we must explain, then in order to clarify the key points, we need to determine them through seven aspects. First, opening the door of verbal instruction, asking about the key points and reasons of the summary; second, answering that the value of giving benefit to those who are unpredestined and lack the causes of aspiration is small; third, asking about the causes that lead to wrong views, that is, an unsuitable environment; fourth, answering that because of the darkness of ignorance, happiness is not seen; fifth, because of losing the big for the small, not listening to advice, leading to the loss of the needs of the future; sixth, because the enthusiasm for practice has faded, the sparks of wisdom no longer shine; seventh, for those who have cut off the lineage of goodness, favorable conditions for happiness do not exist. First, opening the door of precious verbal instruction filled with the essence of nectar, asking about the key points and reasons of the summary. The venerable Milarepa gave teachings clearly to some, but chose to remain silent to most. This is because, for the disciples of early and late, he did not distinguish between inner and outer, near and far, did not distinguish between new acquaintances high and low, and had no likes and dislikes. Because he was a person beyond the ordinary, he showed special care to some, but was stingy with teachings to others.
