It is said that if you want to become a Buddha, do not look at worldly people. Know the teachings of the Lama as they are. Just knowing how to show it to others, but the nature not arising in one's own mindstream, is not enough to be a scholar. If you want to embark on the path of liberation, if you do not practice, the experience will not arise in your mindstream. If that does not arise, the habitual tendencies will not be separated from the Dharma of Samsara, so you must practice. It is very important to practice completely and thoroughly. To practice asceticism, you must abandon attachment to this life. As a Buddhist who has renounced Samsara, if the thought of clinging to self disappears, you can cut off the root of delusion. If you want liberation, abandon this life! Worldly people and those who claim to be wise cannot obtain the fruit of Bodhi, because light and darkness are contradictory. Secondly, this is an example of not wasting time, illustrated by people. It is useless to go deep into the ocean and not obtain jewels. Now is the time for men to be big or small, and for women to be smart or foolish. This is introduced through the symbolism of metaphors. When some people go to an ocean island, they are obstructed by both enemies and friends. When boarding a ship, there are many obstacles to obtaining treasures, such as whirlpools, sea monsters, untimely winds, islands of Rakshasas, and islands of inferior treasures. Having escaped from these and arrived at the island of jewels, the captain returns empty-handed without obtaining any treasures. If you do not obtain the treasure, then the hard work is wasted and meaningless. It is said, how should one obtain the treasure? If you return empty-handed from the island of jewels, then the captain has become timid. Therefore, this is even more foolish. Just as we go to an island, we go to the city of liberation, the peaceful Nirvana. Just as one is obstructed by both enemies and friends when going to an island, one is liberated from the force of bad karma. One is not born in the eight unfavorable conditions such as whirlpools, sea monsters, red storms, islands of Rakshasas, and gathering places, border areas, etc., but has obtained a body of leisure and endowment. Just as one has not entered the island of inferior treasures, one has obtained leisure. Just as one has arrived at the island of jewels, in the teachings of the Buddha, one has met a Lama with blessings. Now is the time to obtain the treasure from the island of jewels, just as the captain returns empty-handed.

Wasting life on meaningless paths, if you cannot accumulate provisions for the next life, it is a great waste. Merchants sigh deeply. Even if they return empty-handed from the treasure island, they do not take away the cause of samsara. Do not let this faithless human body be wasted, but instead carry the burden of sin. Whether a man is capable and clever, and whether a woman is smart or foolish, is revealed at this moment. It means that a man is capable and clever because he has achieved spiritual practice. If you cannot control the changes of the human body, then you are not capable and clever. A woman is smart because she has accumulated provisions for the next life. Without the wealth of the next life, even if you have many sons and properties, you cannot make a decision, which is foolish. At this moment, worldly people who have not achieved the Dharma, even if they have great power, are useless, and whatever they do will become the cause of samsara. If one's mind is accompanied by the Dharma, then she is a clever and capable woman. In general, whether a man is capable and clever, and whether a woman is smart or foolish, will be revealed at the time of death. Third, do not let the human body be wasted in vain, cherish it well. Those who waste their lives, I (am) male, you (are) female, (thus) distinguish. It means that as long as you have not gone towards the Dharma, then the days and nights that have passed are just wasting life. Because time passes meaninglessly, so eating, drinking, dressing, living, etc., as well as the high and low status of the family, will be revealed at the time of death. The difference between men and women, and the difference between future intelligence and virtue, will be distinguished at the time of death. Even if you put in hard work, if you cannot use it for the next life, it is meaningless labor. Do not do those futile things. Do not accept actions that will not bring good results. Fourth, practitioners should abandon things that are not related to the Dharma. Worldly affairs are meaningless. When can we carry out permanent cultivation? It is now. This is pointing out the root of the error. Because everything that worldly people do in this life cannot be separated from the root of suffering, it is meaningless. It is very rare for us to obtain such a precious human body, so do not waste time, now we must carry out permanent cultivation, now we must distinguish between samsara and nirvana. If you do not work hard now, the human body will decline, so there is no way not to practice. This cycle...
