Subdue. If it becomes dull and dark, then draw the awareness outward. If you fear the four doors of birth, then diligently practice the skills of awareness. If you feel aversion to doing good deeds, then let the awareness rest in its own place. If there are too many discursive thoughts, then abandon the awareness to the essence. If there is no increase in experience, then change the direction of awareness. If arrogance and pride arise, then practice humble conduct. If extravagance and self-importance arise, then wear tattered clothes. If virtuous deeds increase, then extend your vows outward. If strong attachment arises, then forcibly cut off the clinging. If desire and hatred arise in the mind, then wander in foreign lands. In times of joy, act like a madman. Thus, experience will arise spontaneously. There are thirteen targets of severance in this. First, practicing the skills of awareness outwardly is one. Practicing the skills inwardly is two. Diligently practicing the skills at the five gates is three. Practicing the skills impartially is four. Letting the skills rest in self-appearance is five. Cutting off wrong views is six. If attached, then shifting the attention elsewhere is seven. Placing a lion in a dog kennel is eight. Demoting a king to a commoner is nine. Stretching out the illusionary rope is ten. Drinking the heart blood of a lion is eleven. Escaping from the harm of injury is twelve. Following after a drunken elephant is thirteen. Among these, the first, practicing the skills of awareness outwardly, is like this. The holy one said: If sickness arises in the body, separate awareness from its support. That is, in Dingri (a place), a person was sick and went to ask for blessings. The holy one said: You should circle the Yagi star (Tibetan: སྐར་མ་ཡ་གི) and pray. The Yagi star is blessed. If sickness arises in the body, focus awareness slightly on the sickness itself and control it. Then, from the place where awareness is sick, by dissecting awareness, separate awareness from its support and release it. By holding it like that for a while, the sickness will naturally subside. Thus, while awareness is focused on the sickness, transfer awareness randomly to different supports. By practicing the skills in a wind-blown manner, it will appear without fabrication, the sickness will naturally be liberated, and the pain will not be found. Second, practicing the skills inwardly is like this. If external appearances arise as obstacles, then draw the awareness inward. That is, this is to make appearance and emptiness of one taste. During meditation, awareness is known by external appearances.

Having been snatched away from... If strong attachment arises towards a place, and the mind is distracted by worldly affairs, then it is said that the appearance of things has manifested. Therefore, the center of wisdom ༄༅། །Below, create a water mandala like a mirror. Inside, there is the method of "pouring," which is the saying "looking into the depths of the ocean," which should be accepted here as a pith instruction. In that mandala, train the wisdom like a fish swimming. This will erase all the appearances of the six aggregates of objects. Third, this is the practice of concentrating training on the five sense doors. If one becomes drowsy, dull, and confused, the wisdom pours outward, meaning: This requires appearance and emptiness to be equal. During meditation, it is important to clear away drowsiness and dullness. If confusion becomes chaotic, the wisdom will lose clarity. Therefore, the sight of "relaxing on the summit of Mount Meru" should be accepted here as a pith instruction. The method of "pouring outward" is to raise the lower wind and infuse the essence into the visualization of the vajra crown. There, the wisdom becomes alert, thereby eliminating drowsiness, dullness, and confusion. Fourth, this is the practice of training in an unbiased direction. If you fear the four birth gates, train the wisdom, meaning: It is necessary to equalize appearance and emptiness in non-duality. The four birth gates include the six realms of beings. Because there is no body that has not experienced suffering, if you fear it, train all the phenomena of appearance and sound as illusions. For wisdom, the awareness of duality will be liberated in itself. Train awareness in the absence of truth. This will untie the bonds of delusion. Fifth, this is the practice of placing the training in self-appearance. If you feel aversion to doing virtuous deeds, leave the wisdom in itself. During this time, do not rely on the defense of antidotes. Pray to the faith of motivation. Because for any form of virtuous action, the initial combination is a small amount of respect. Therefore, if you feel aversion to doing the actual action, that is what is seen from there. Entering has not been devoured by the object. The power of the antidote will turn back on itself, a situation that will not happen to all practitioners. Leaving the wisdom in itself means: rest is needed during this time, so leave awareness in the ordinary. Effort will become impure. If wisdom is not placed in its natural state at this time, it is a time when the paint after the armor has not dried, which will cause the meditation to become confused.
