If one takes on a little responsibility, how can one encounter the noble path? If there is no aversion to samsara, then nirvana is far away, and one must earnestly understand this. It is said that, in addition to this, the guru's instructions and heart-advice are like kindling a fire, and one should not imitate the lineage of good deeds and special methods of others. Although the gurus' instructions and methods are supremely excellent, if one does not strive to practice them oneself, how can one obtain the fruits of those methods? It is like having butter in milk, but not getting butter without churning. Similarly, the guru's oral instructions are the footprints of the Buddhas of the three times, but if one does not take practice as the essence, experience will not arise in the mind, and there will be no difference from ordinary people. Those who change their sectarian views do not sincerely wish to become Buddhas. If they wish to become Buddhas, they should strive to attain the fruit of nirvana, but their actions and conduct are aimed at achieving worldly glory. Even if judged by worldly standards, their actions only seek benefits in this life, so how can they attain perfect Buddhahood? If a person is not free from worldly attachments, how can transcendent Dharma arise in their mind? The second is being ashamed of lacking the motivation for practice. Think about it, when will a person who enjoys laziness and idleness have the thought of practice? The thought of practice is stolen by laziness, and this is recognized as an obstacle to liberation, which must be understood. Think about it, these words are from the heart. For a yogi on the path, diligence is an important companion, but with laziness and idleness as a pillow, one will never reach the end. A lazy person, even if they enter the Dharma gate, is still an ordinary person, because a person who enjoys laziness turns their back on the path of liberation. Because they have no thought of practice, experience does not arise in their mind. What is the use of such a person knowing the Dharma? If one does not understand the meaning of the scriptures, how can realization arise in the mind? Due to the power of laziness, observation and reflection do not penetrate the mind, and even if the seasons change to spring and autumn, one does not understand the impermanence of the external world. Due to the power of idleness, observation and reflection do not penetrate the mind, and even if every moment is changing, impermanence does not arise in the mind. When will such a person have the thought of death? Know that life is as impermanent as a dewdrop on a blade of grass.

Please grant the opening of the treasure door! Third, this is the shame of committing a major mistake: without even a sesame seed's worth of benefit, yet doing evil in front of others, what is that person thinking? It means that such a person relies on a heartless lung. Although outwardly a human, their essence has not transcended that of an animal. Without even a sesame seed's worth of benefit to oneself, happily and expectantly, as a vassal of others, without feeling ashamed of karmic consequences, they dare to do evil in front of others. That is being possessed by a demon. What are they thinking? In reality, it is considered that they have no heart. Fourth, this is the shame of not following the path of good and evil: knowing good and evil but not fearing karmic consequences, what is that person thinking? If one does not know these two, there is nothing to be done. Knowing them, one should adopt and abandon, which is more important than reason, because the result of good is happiness, and the result of evil is suffering. Knowing this but not following the path of good and evil, not caring about karmic consequences, those who are not afraid, like parrots, although they can speak human language, their essence has not transcended that of an animal. That person's heart is mixed with opium, tea, or a black race, these three are intertwined. What are they thinking? In reality, it is considered that a person has no thoughts of their own. Fifth, one should not abandon the place of happiness and well-being, like this: being placed in a high position but falling to a low position, what is that person thinking? This is a wish that has not been deluded by demons, because by relying on the appearance of a monastic, one is placed in a high position, becoming a respected person, but unable to enjoy happiness, falling to a low position, destroying oneself. What is that person thinking? One should not poison oneself, because we are not enemies! Sixth, not fearing the enemy of death, this shows foolishness. Even if one barely lives to the end, and does not remember the Dharma, where has that person's heart gone? It means that there are many people like this wandering in samsara, like a candle running out of oil, even if one barely lives to the end, one does not know that old age is the neighbor of death, the executioner of impermanence, the youthful impulse of blood. Even if signs of death such as white hair gradually appear, the age is like an old ox.
