He said he was weary of practice. Again, he said, "Please give profound instructions, I want to practice." To this, the master instructed, "It is important to have faith. Have you ever experienced even a hair's breadth of fear of the suffering of samsara? If this arises, not a fabricated fear, where is the time to drink hot tea?" Lama Bodhisattva said, "Do you have time to look at the moon?" Acharya doesn't even have time to eat zan (tsampa). You haven't given any thought to the Dharma, nor have you thought about your age. If you consider your age, life is like a melting butter lamp, burning away. For the short life, there is absolutely no time for laziness. He also said, "If you don't accumulate experience in your own mindstream, accumulating letters in a vessel won't find the path to liberation. It is important, if life is spent in distraction and wasted on the road, isn't life wasted on the path of being left with time for virtue? When do you people practice Dharma? Do you have time to listen? Do you have time to speak? I haven't seen you having time to meditate. If all your thoughts are spent on this life alone, and you don't carry provisions for the next life, haven't you become a mere image of a Dharma practitioner? There is no choice but to go empty-handed. Those who suffer on their own put their energy into meaningless things. I say, I will take care of decorating the Buddha image; you will take care of listening to the Dharma; then, who will take care of practicing? He also said, "It is important that you people study the Dharma for happiness and hope. Do you really want to see realization arise in your mindstream? If you really want to, then without separating from the armor of the world, the transcendent Dharma cannot arise in your mindstream. Without abandoning worldly affairs, Dharma cannot be accomplished. Without abandoning inferior actions, you cannot find the opportunity to practice Dharma. Unless you practice diligently like a farmer, you cannot meet the saints and accomplished ones. People like you cannot be found anywhere, you are people who drift with the tide. Perhaps Dharma can be accomplished within worldly behavior and teachings. Like the son of Suddhodana, Shakyamuni Buddha, without abandoning worldly affairs, Dharma did not seem to be accomplished. The practice of perfecting the three wisdoms on one seat. Someone asked, "What is meant by 'སྐད་པ་'?" The master replied, "Like a skilled doctor diagnosing a disease by taking the pulse. We recognize the root of samsara, that is the wisdom of hearing. Like a crowd gathering together."

Ah, we are soaked in the thick juice of afflictions, like cutting off the root of a disease completely with a laxative. We uproot afflictions with the essence of the instructions, that is the wisdom of meditation. This, to have unwavering faith in the words of the Lama, that is hearing. To not forget it and hold it in mind, that is thinking. To put it into practice, that is the wisdom of meditation, that is how it is done, they said.

He said, "Strive to accomplish what humans cannot accomplish." He also said, "Now is the time to reverse the cycle of samsara, so do not be lazy in your practice. If you return empty-handed from the Isle of Jewels, it will be meaningless, so diligently engage in practice. Obtaining this transmission of teachings that has not been common in Tibet is not something that happens easily, so understand that it is the blessing of the Guru. Even if you are poor, do not sell the instructions as food or wealth, and be able to uphold the precious vows. Because it will become an obstacle to life, do not display the arts of interdependent origination. If you do not put down the horns of pride, you are not a good son of the father, so stay in a humble place." He said. And once again, the Lama said, "Even having experienced happiness and suffering in layers, that person who does not remember the sacred Dharma is someone who staggers and is at a loss. There is no difference from animals, and having obtained a human body, it is wasted. Even if you know a lot of Dharma, if you strive for this life, then you have lost the need for Dharma. Because there is no experience in the mind, you are someone who pretends to sleep during the day. That person who sees the nature of samsara as suffering and still accepts it willingly is someone covered in a wolf's skin, a blind person looking for enjoyment. That person who knows the faults of samsara but does not fear the ripening of karma is someone who deceives himself, a human body with the heart of an ox." He said. He also said, "We who are offered as teachers of the Dharma, please examine whether refuge has truly arisen in your minds or not. Protect your vows so that they do not disappear without a trace. Although you are learned in the Dharma and have a good appearance, if you have broken your vows and have not tried to restore them, then Dharma without vows in the mind is like a parrot reciting. We are in danger of losing our wisdom. If you do not teach the lower Dharmas and take the higher and higher ones, they will not arise. It seems that you are taking the vows of the knowledge-holders without having generated the vows of individual liberation that come first, like branches that do not grow without roots." He said. He also said, "In general, if the blessings of the Guru do not enter, the ordinary mind will not be reversed. If ordinary thoughts are not reduced, even if you know a lot of Dharma, you have not entered the teachings. Knowing the Dharma is not enough, you must practice to achieve realization."
