At that time, if one does not have their own opinion, a man's head will be devoured by excrement, so it was said. Later, when someone said they wanted to spend their later years in practice, he laughed and said, "Really? If you really want to practice, then strive diligently in practice. Meager merit is like a withered tree, it is the culprit that prevents accomplishment in practice, recognize this as the deception of Mara. All the achievements of this world are poison that you administer to yourself. Therefore, abandon actions that are not Dharma, and cast away all relatives who are not beneficial to practice, for they are iron hooks that pull downwards, throw them behind you. Among a hundred abbots, one's own head is the most precious." So he said. When meditating, if one does not suppress the upper wind, and asked, "What faults will there be?" He replied, "If you do not suppress it, awareness will not be stable, even if you recognize the root, it will not be firm. All the faults of scattering and not concentrating are due to the initial holding being too small. Settle awareness in meditation, and then forcefully suppress the upper wind, so that movement and abiding occur simultaneously, like hanging a stone on a castle. This is called the key to opening the door of liberation." On another occasion, he said to Geshe Zhang Yudrawa, "Does Zhangton intend to retreat for practice?" He replied, "Thank you for your kindness, I will dedicate my time to virtuous deeds." He replied, "Oh, that's good, is it true? If that is really the case, then strive to do external actions. If you do not do external actions, actions will arise from actions, so you will not find the opportunity to do good deeds, and merit will be obstructed by Mara. If you cannot recognize these deceptions, you will use the foolish mind that sees suffering as an ornament, and throw yourself into the net of the eight worldly concerns." Someone asked, "Please impart a true key instruction." He replied, "That is the state beyond speech, thought, and expression, it is devoid of language and letters, the teacher cannot speak it, and the student cannot hear it. It is not bound by arising and ceasing, it transcends consciousness. Without coming and going, like the nature of space. In conventional terms, the true key instruction refers to that." He also said, "The nature of the teacher is immaculate, and naturally pure, this is the natural state. Understanding this does not help the path."
