It's the same. It's like a disease entering the body's nutrients. When afflictions are transformed into the path, and happiness arises in the mind, there is a danger that the armor will be stained with dirt. Now, the defenses of the antidote must be destroyed. After gaining stability, adverse conditions should be turned into helpers. The great and precious one said: When the forest is burned by fire, the wind cannot harm it. These are his words, and there will be no discomfort or displeasure. This is the key to the secret mantra's instructions. Wanting to eliminate afflictions is the path to longevity. Transforming it into the path is called the secret path of Vajrasattva. It is also said in the testament: If you block the five poisons, you will cut off the path to the arising of wisdom. Do not deliberately abandon it with antidotes, Dingriwa. These are his words. In general, everything becomes easy in the morning after taking root. These are his words. The instructions of the great ones all say that you must abandon the apprehended and the apprehender. If mindfulness does not cease, the apprehended and the apprehender cannot be stopped either. Someone said that to destroy attachment, you must first awaken yourself. That is wrong. Do not understand it that way. It is enough for us to destroy the self. If you do not regard it as self-sustaining, you will not accumulate karma. Do not forget the appearance of the objects of the six senses. Do not stop it, but know that it is emptiness. If you understand that the maker is not established, the apprehended and the apprehender will disappear. I see all phenomena as illusory, like putting turquoise around a person's neck. Lama Dingriwa said: There are two kinds of yogis. One is a king-like yogi, and the other is a beggar-like yogi. The king-like yogi, even though he is among many retinues, behaves like a worldly person, but is not stained by his faults, just like a lotus grows in the mud. He does not accumulate the karma of attachment. If the illusory army is in the midst of the four armies, if its general himself stays there, because he knows its weaknesses, he will not have strange ideas, just like he will not be attached. The yogi experiences the fundamental meaning, and the maker inside him understands that his nature is emptiness, so he does not follow illusions. He understands the key to the instructions. It is also in the testament: Do not follow illusions, and at that time conceptual thoughts will cease. Dingriwa said: This is the teaching of the key point. Like a beggar.

That person called a yogi distances himself from his birthplace, abandons the mind that clings to self, forsakes the partiality of enemies and friends, cultivates humble conduct in unfamiliar places, and exhausts the arising of joy and sorrow from the head of the eight worldly concerns. This is the natural conduct of a yogi. If one is stained by the defilements of the eight worldly concerns, then one has not grasped the yogi's own ground, and has become a yogi in name only. This is also stated in the testament: 'To say one is a yogi without abandoning the eight worldly concerns is a lie. Sever the dualistic thoughts, Dingriwa!' It is said that those with great reputations have torn cushions and torn shoes. We do not need to tear either. It is said that the mind that clings to things is what needs to be torn. It is said that some holders of Jowo's (Atiśa's) instructions, even if they meditate for a long time, do not generate essence. When asked what the key to this is, it was answered: 'If realization has not arisen, then one has not entered the instructions. It is also because vows have been broken.' Lama Bangyas Chökyi Senge (Lion of Dharma) said: 'Until obscurations are purified, view and meditation will not arise in the mindstream.' To this, Lama Bagom said: 'When the two obscurations are purified, there is no need for view and meditation.' This is indeed true. View and meditation are practiced as a means to purify the two obscurations. In general, it is not beneficial to hear instructions in the ear. They must be grasped in the essence. Before grasping the essence, there must be a firm conviction. To generate firm conviction, it is necessary to accumulate merit. If merit is not accumulated, firm conviction will not arise, so one cannot grasp the key points of the instructions. For example, in Dingri, when Lama Sangye Zhal (Buddha Face) was alive, all the important instructions were taught casually, and it is said that only a few people benefited. All the faults were because firm conviction had not arisen, leading to disputes. The root cause was the failure to accumulate merit. For a person with firm conviction, there are no unsuitable instructions, like Lama Dingriwa. For those who have the seed of instructions, it is impossible for realization not to arise. It will inevitably arise in the mindstream. When Dampa Rinpoche (Holy One) gave instructions to Bagom, he said: 'If you apply the suffering of the six realms to your own mindstream, it is impossible not to turn your mind away from samsara. If you see desire as an enemy, it is impossible not to subdue the eight worldly concerns. If you destroy the clinging to this life, you will surely reach the end of karma.'
