他们说:“在他们中间,经常能见到本尊(lha'i zhal mthong ba mang du gda' na zer bas)。”

Again, when asked, "Are you well?" he replied, "Thanks to the strength of friends, I am doing well. It seems to be due to the power of interdependence!" Associating with worldly people does not seem to be conducive to generating Samadhi. From the outside appearance, it seems that inner wisdom also changes accordingly. From the perspective of entering the Dharma, it seems that a person's behavior also changes. In short, a good friend is an important favorable condition. In particular, if one's discipline is perfectly flawless, then associating with a friend who abides in vows will naturally lead to purity. We should not practice our virtuous deeds in their midst. Doing so is like cutting a dry rope in water, or like wanting a sapling to dry quickly by soaking it in water. In order to quickly perfect the key to cyclic existence and nirvana—the two accumulations—one should maintain the ordinary state of body and speech. Because our behavior is not in accordance with their religious beliefs, they may accumulate sins because of us. I understood this, so I repeatedly declined the invitations from the people of Kharu Gompa and did not go. There is no difference between the Kadampa and a pile of dung. If the evil friend one associates with is a Kadampa, then they may focus on achieving success in this life and end up dying on the path of pursuing fame and gain. Recognizing one's own abilities, one will not pursue fame and gain. Recognizing the realm of demons, one will not be complacent about one's own merits. Because the main goal is to obscure the next life, there is no time to cater to and flatter others. Not associating with worldly people, one will not care about the reputation of fame. Because one is a practitioner, one will not become a slave to desires. Because one has the teachings of the Bodhisattva, the Lion of Men, one will only look at the wall and not copy others. He said these words. They said, "Among them, one often sees the face of the deity (lha'i zhal mthong ba mang du gda' na zer bas)." Even if one perfects all eight common accomplishments by seeing the face of the deity, one cannot take even one step out of samsara. The Dharma of the Kadampa, in order to be liberated from the state of good rebirth and reach the state of nirvana, does not even amount to one part of a hair split into a hundred pieces. It may even become an obstacle to enlightenment. Why should one value seeing the face of the deity so much? Because one clings to the idea that there is a deity that can be seen, Pethau (pe the'us) may show many faces to the Kadampas.

Being happy to see the face of the god Ong, the mind that holds it as supreme distances one from Buddhahood. Associating with these fault-finding people only increases miserliness, and they will not become Dharma friends. It is also mentioned in the testament: Evil friends who practice the sacred Dharma are like corpse demons. Having too many unexamined friends is useless, Dingriwa. The yogi said that the demon of litigation returned to his homeland. If one does not conform to worldly people and their opinions, will it not be uncomfortable like being in a foreign land? The kind lama replied: It is slightly different. For a yogi before abandoning attachment, there is no way to avoid becoming a place for accumulating defilements, so there is no way to distance oneself. First, escape from conditions; second, blend with conditions; and finally, transform conditions into the path. These are three steps. First, escaping from conditions is necessary. Until the first stage of asceticism is completed, as a yogi of generosity, one cannot overcome conditions. This is like impure water that has not been settled cannot be used for drinking. One cannot overcome good and bad conditions. It is also mentioned in the testament: A yogi who has not practiced asceticism cannot overcome conditions. First, cultivate endurance, Dingriwa. Second, blend with conditions. Through the actions of a practitioner, one must become accustomed to maintaining equanimity in all things. If a practitioner can maintain equanimity, the truth will naturally arise in the mind. If one cannot maintain equanimity and is bound by the eight worldly concerns, then it is necessary at this stage to apply the antidotes effectively. When blending with conditions, if the antidotes are applied well, then the armor will also fit perfectly. Lama Dingriwa said: This is what is meant by "transforming the mind and gaining autonomy of awareness." Being able to transform the place where afflictions arise is called "practicing taking and giving in going and coming," which is the essence of the supreme key instructions. It is also mentioned in the testament: If one is too attached, experience will not increase, so turn the direction of awareness, Dingriwa. Finally, transform conditions into the path. Just as a lotus grows from mud, when conditions appear as helpers, this is most precious. If one does not conform to the world, even medicine cannot become the path to liberation. For example, monkeys do not dwell on a mountain without forests.
