Because it is not accompanied by even a single trace of distraction, and because death is not remembered and impermanence is not born in the mind, the Dharma muttered from the mouth of such a person, even if a scholar, is not a practitioner. Even if a lifetime is spent listening to the Dharma, and even if one is not ignorant of the scriptures, if one cannot shed the armor of worldliness, transcendent Dharma cannot arise in the mind. This contradiction of light and darkness was spoken by Rigawa. Geshe Chumikpa said: The darkness of obscuration's own power, even if Shakyamuni has no physical harm, is cut off by the self-concealing method of the unworthy, like a mirror in the hand of a blind person. When asked, "What are you referring to?" The Lama said: The act of the darkness of obscuration's own power, although it is the nature of the mind of beings and the self-aware, clear light Dharmakaya, is that the wisdom inherent within oneself, the co-emergent with the original meaning, is not manifested due to sudden defilements. Not being able to meet despite not being separated is because it is too close to see. It is like the eye's cataract not seeing its own faults. Shakyamuni not having physical harm means that he is not bound by the six marginal words of the extensive, intermediate, and concise Sutras, but is the nature of the only clear, unhidden, naked words. From form to all-knowingness, the Buddhas speak of all phenomena as objects of cognition. All phenomena are empty of their own essence. If one does not recognize the flaws of selflessness through the Guru's instructions, one will not understand the profound meaning of the Sutras, and therefore realization will not arise in the minds of beings. Not understanding the unhidden, naked Dharma is because it is cut off by the self-concealing method. It is like using a mirror in the hand of a blind person as an example. Even if the outline of the face appears on the surface of the mirror, the blind person cannot see it. Without the eye of the instruction, one cannot see the meaning of the mind. The root of why the reader cannot be liberated lies in this. Dreams, echoes, optical illusions, sounds, mirages, emanations, water moons, Gandharva cities, there is nothing that is not symbolic. For those who recognize the flaws of the essential points and keep them in mind, there is nothing that is not motivated by the causes of realization. Even ordinary idle talk can be understood as advice. For those whose roots are planted in the nature of mind, the instructions will appear in books as the environment manifests. But it is not like that for those who are cut off by the self-concealing method. Not recognizing the flaws

Of children. Those with inherent nature grasp the images of external appearances as true, so it is an illusion, so it is said. Geshe Gya said: Not knowing the support and not asking, not knowing the nature and not practicing, if these four obscurations are not purified, it is very difficult to attain enlightenment here. Asked: What does it mean to say "not knowing the support"? He replied: "Not knowing the support" refers to a person who has not gone through hearing, contemplation, and meditation, and does not recognize the lama. For a person who desires the fruit of liberation, a lama is needed until enlightenment is attained, so a lama is indispensable. If you abandon the lama, it is like not being able to reach the island of jewels without a boatman. Even the thousand Buddhas of this fortunate eon arise by relying on lamas, so it is necessary to rely on them. Dakini Kuntu Zangmo said: The lama is the basis of all siddhis. If this is not realized, it will not be attained even after hundreds of thousands of eons, like a sprout without a seed. So it is said. That person who contemplates the lama's faults does not rely on the lama with the perception of a Buddha. That person who does not possess the lama's qualities does not rely on the lama with the conduct of not abandoning him. That person who does not remember the lama's kindness does not rely on the lama with the perception of cherishing him. In this way, due to these three faults, blessings will not enter, merit will not be accumulated, the bhumis and paths will not be realized, and becoming a Buddha requires the pith instructions of the lineage. Therefore, knowing how to rely on a lama is very important, so it is said. Asked: What does it mean to say "not asking"? The lama said: Those who want to obtain the pith instructions of the lineage and eagerly hope for them, without looking at the balance of the scale, suck greedily with their mouths and only pick the leaves of words. It seems that they want to obtain an uncultivated Buddha fruit from within their hearts, but the attainment of the fruit depends on practice. When asking for the pith instructions of the practice lineage, they do not guide the practice, stay away from the texts, and impatiently focus only on the words. It seems that they only want to obtain knowledge without listening to the Dharma. If they rely on the lama for a long time, qualities will not arise. Those who have no intention of practicing, say they are asking about the texts, but only focus on reciting the words. The words must arise from within one's own mind, the external
