It is not permissible to proclaim secrets to the immature. This is the essence of mind training. To anyone, Wherever they may be, the poor like beggars, the blind like the blind, lepers like lepers, whoever practices it, is fortunate. It is a medicine that heals with one dose. It does not discriminate between good or bad containers. It does not distinguish between old or young age. It does not differentiate between sharp or dull faculties. It is a true instruction. Some do not wish to become Buddhas, yet complain about the restrictions of the Dharma. Compared to those who desire wealth, there are very few who seek liberation. Buddhas are said to be fabricated by force. Darton Bumme said: Flaunting the father's wealth, yet claiming to strictly adhere to the Dharma. If there is anything broader than this, it means that many accomplished ones will arise. Geshe Chumikpa said: The three causes for ripening, must be obtained with three corresponding things. If one does not possess the three, high, medium, and low, there is no way to liberate the mindstream of an individual. So it is said. When asked, what are the three corresponding things, the high, medium, and low causes for ripening? The Lama replied: The path of mantra is two, ripening and liberation. The causes for ripening are two, experience and blessings, which must be obtained from the Lama. The three corresponding things are: first, giving up what corresponds to oneself but is difficult to give up. Second, offering whatever the Lama needs. Third, offering fame and conforming to the wind. The three, high, medium, and low, are: the highest is to please the Lama through practice, the medium is to please the Lama through conduct, and the lowest is to please the Lama through wealth. Some people are good at sweet talk, but want to understand without listening to the Dharma, want to generate realization without practice, want to generate transcendent Dharma in their minds without abandoning worldly affairs, want to obtain the fruit of Bodhi in the next life without generating even a hair's breadth of renunciation from Samsara. Whatever they do, they do only for this life, but do not want to wander in Samsara in the next life. Those who do not see the opposition between light and darkness, those who are double-minded, those who do not want to become Buddhas but crave wealth, neither engage in practices that please the Lama, nor have compassion arising from conduct, nor are willing to give even a copper coin from their hands. For such people, even if the Dharma is vast, it is difficult for Dharma to arise in their minds.

Thus it was said. Geshe Chumikpa said: Though stars are many, bright stars are few. The moon, unique, is extremely rare. The wish-fulfilling jewel taken from the crown of the Dragon King, is a wondrous realm where needs and desires arise. When asked what he meant by this, he replied: Stars appear in the night sky, but they also exist during the day, only they are not seen because of the sunlight. Just as the number of stars is great, from one perspective, it seems there are many who change their sectarian beliefs. However, no matter how many stars there are, just as the number of bright stars is small, among practitioners, those who truly practice are few. Among the multitude of stars without merit, a virtuous person is as rare as the moon. Because they do not pursue worldly affairs, there is only one individual who has renounced samsara. Most who become monks in appearance, few are like the moon, striving for liberation from this life. Just as the wish-fulfilling jewel is not common to all beings, the practice manual taken from the Four Dharma Chests is not in the hands of just anyone. Just as the precious jewel is on the crown of the Dragon King, the practice manual exists in the oral transmission lineage. Just as it is difficult to obtain the jewel, and once obtained, needs and desires are inexhaustible, it is difficult to receive the whispered instructions of the oral lineage from the lineage guru. Once received, it accomplishes both aims, effortlessly transforming into a wondrous realm. Geshe said thus. Geshe Gya said: The peacock overcomes thirst, it does not drink water from the earth. Hearing the call of the Kalaviṅka, the sound of the crow is not pleasing. One who has eaten sweet nectar, no longer desires coarse rice. When asked what he meant by this, he replied: The peacock opens its mouth to catch the rain that falls on auspicious dates, numbers, constellations, and suns. According to the number of raindrops that enter its throat, the peacock will not be thirsty for those months. Therefore, it does not crave lakes, springs, and puddles. The peacock does not open its mouth to catch rain at any time, but only when auspicious dates, numbers, constellations, and suns appear. Like the peacock, a fortunate individual with prior accumulations and purifications, towards the Dharma
