Those who have no opinion, even if born strong, are dogs. Those who do not remember the Dharma when they are old, even if they have great merit, are dogs. Those who know the Dharma but do not practice it are foolish, even if they are eloquent, they are dogs. Whatever one does, if the result only brings benefit to this life, one is crazy, even if one has great accomplishments, one is a dog. Those who have not thought of practicing the Dharma are those who destroy the fruit and the root, like a dog that has eaten feces, so it is said. When asked, what is the cause of perfect practice? It was answered: To recognize women as demons is the cause of perfect practice. To recognize merit as an obstacle is the cause of declining practice. To be accompanied by the thought of death is the cause of declining practice, so it was said. When asked, what is the cause of the inevitable end of karma? It was answered: Those who do not believe in the Dharma and do not listen to advice are the cause of the inevitable end of karma. Not engaging in inferior actions is the cause of the inevitable end of karma. Attachment to fame is the cause of the inevitable end of karma. Considering the next life more important than this life is the cause of the inevitable end of karma, so it was said. When asked, what is the cause of a practitioner not leaking? It was answered: Cutting the rope of face-saving with extremely bad omen behavior will not cause leakage. Not clinging to conformity with non-human behavior will not cause leakage. Not clinging to wealth with aspirational behavior will not cause leakage. Not frequenting villages with the behavior of a wild animal will not cause leakage. If you do not please people's hearts, there will be no leakage, so it was said. When asked, what is the cause of arising samadhi? Abiding in pure morality is the cause of arising samadhi. Closing the door of speech with silent asceticism is the cause of arising samadhi. Not being attached to the body and enjoyment is the cause of arising samadhi. Living in a place far from people is the cause of arising samadhi. Living alone without friends is the cause of arising samadhi, so it was said. Again, it was said that giving with expectation of reward is a dog. Keeping morality with the expectation of beauty in front of others is a dog. Patience with good nature

I am a dog. I am the diligent dog who does mental work. I am the meditative dog who abides in fearlessness and composure. I am the wisdom dog who sends the fruits into samsara. I am the view dog whose emptiness is modified by the mind. I am the practice dog who cannot untie the knot of conceptual thoughts. I am the yogi dog who does not turn his mind away from desire, so it is said. Again, it is said, a person with worldly attachments cannot accumulate provisions for the next life. A person who leaves the lama too early cannot resolve the details of questions. A person who takes illusion as reality cannot open the cage of samsara. A person who puts his mind on worldly affairs cannot grasp the self-nature of yoga. A person who does not recognize the moment of arising and ceasing cannot realize the essence of the unconditioned. A person who does not know contentment with material things cannot cut off the bondage of desire, so it is said. Again, it is said, knowing appearances as illusion, yet being unable to reverse delusion, is powerlessness. Turning the mind away from desire, yet being unable to be content with material things, is powerlessness. Impermanence arising in the mind, yet not generating diligence, is powerlessness. Cutting off wrong knowledge, yet letting awareness remain in a mundane state, is powerlessness. Praying with devotion, yet being unable to receive blessings, is powerlessness, so it is said. Again, it is said, not seeing the suffering of samsara is being blind. Not hearing the bliss of nirvana is being deaf. Not remembering the next life is having a rotten heart. Even experiencing repeated suffering, yet not generating renunciation, is being mindless. Even living to the end of life, yet the Dharma not entering the mind, is the cessation of consciousness, so it is said. Again, it is said, this leisure and opportunity is for accomplishing the noble path. This precious human body is not easily obtained. Encountering the precious Dharma is not accidental. Understanding the meaning of the profound Dharma is not created. Completing practice without obstacles is not our own power, so it is said. Again, it is said, for a person with bad omens and no fortune, an emanation body will not come to help. A person who has not accumulated merit will not feel the opportunity to recognize self-nature. A person who leaves the lama too early before practice is complete will encounter evil demons of adversity. A person who is small-minded and easily satisfied with hearing a little will be bound by mundane affairs. A person who likes to use conceptual thoughts to cut off words and meanings
