Useless, even calling for help is useless, kicking with your feet is useless. Waving your hands is useless, even changing clothes is useless, you can only endure suffering alone. Like this, the great suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death, etc., from beginningless samsara, until now. Should the enjoyer now feel weary? It's like not having to feel weary. In the root of all causes, it says: Why does the fruit of suffering arise? Because of the five inversions. That is, right and wrong are inverted, truth and falsehood are inverted, precious and not precious are inverted, important and unimportant are inverted, and shortcomings and advantages are inverted. The first is that the reality of the three realms of samsara is emptiness and selflessness, but clinging to things and self, therefore the truth of things is inverted. It's like a person going the wrong way to conquer the enemy. Because right and wrong are inverted, truth and falsehood are also inverted. Taking nirvana as false, taking false samsara as true, therefore being deceived. For example, like a person deceived by magic. Like this, because truth and falsehood are inverted, importance and unimportance are also inverted. Putting aside the important path to nirvana, while clinging to the path of samsara. For example, only caring about being happy today, but inverting the teachings of being unhappy from tomorrow onwards. Because of this power, shortcomings and advantages are also inverted. Taking worldly perfection as an advantage, taking nirvana as a cliff and abandoning it. Like this, relying on the five inversions, five uselessnesses naturally arise. Because of existence, it is useless. Iron ore is the raw material of iron, but it cannot become iron without smelting. Similarly, although the reality is emptiness or selflessness, if it is not determined through hearing and thinking, it will not be realized, therefore the Buddha fruit cannot be obtained. Because of pervasiveness, it is useless. Ghee pervades milk, but ghee will not be produced without churning. Similarly, although the Tathagata-garbha pervades all beings, one cannot become a Tathagata without practicing. Because of possession, it is useless. Like the treasure of a poor person. Although there is treasure underneath, the poor person does not know, so they must make a living by begging and selling. A monk with clairvoyance begged for food and discovered the treasure underneath, and distributed it to the poor. Similarly, because the Dharma nature inherently exists within oneself, it is useless.

A precious lama who can introduce it is needed. Seeing alone does not help; it is like water in a well, so one must become accustomed to it. Knowing alone does not help; it is like a parrot reciting, so one must practice it. What should be abandoned, suffering, has been explained. Third, for the truth of the path, the causal condition is lineage, and the main condition is the precious lama, because it arises from practicing the meaning of the lama's instructions. Realizing the basis as it is depends on the lama. Practicing the path depends on the individual. The result coming into the path occurs naturally. Among these, the main suffering is the suffering of birth, old age, sickness, and death. Therefore, to cut off birth, one must cut off karma. To cut off karma, one must cut off afflictions. To cut off afflictions, one must cut off self-grasping. To cut off self-grasping, one must turn back from the place of delusion. Therefore, as an antidote to grasping at the basis as self, one must ascertain the basis as selfless, destroying self from the extreme and destroying self from the center. The first is to examine separately from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet, asking where it resides. Because what was previously grasped as self has become inverted, regret arises. With the wisdom of discriminating awareness, dissect this body into the five aggregates separately. Dissect the form aggregate into subtle particles. Finally, ascertain that even the subtle particles themselves are imperceptible. For the objects of consciousness, separate the five feelings and three perceptions, as well as the fifty-one compositional factors and the eight consciousnesses. Separate all of these into three states of arising, ceasing, and abiding in an instant. Also, separate them to the ultimate limit of indivisible moments. Finally, after realizing that even the moment at the end of time is imperceptible, ascertain that there is no object to grasp as self. Alternatively, understand this body as like a rainbow in space. Finally, contemplate the body as like a rainbow, and then let it go as a rainbow vanishes into the sky. The nature of mind should also be regarded as inseparable from empty space. Through this, one ascertains that the object of grasping is selfless, and through practice, grasping at self will be reversed. Furthermore, one must ascertain that the nature of external objects is unborn. Like this, all these appearances as forms and so on
