It is difficult to correct faults with faults in terms of wrong views, wrong meditation, wrong conduct, wrong obscurations, and wrong roots. Some people maintain the face of patrons by showing performances such as singing and dancing, and by holding banquets, etc. Fame grows silently, but practitioners do not notice it. Through empowerments, consecrations, and bestowing vows, etc., desire grows silently, but practitioners do not notice it. Also, due to the power of 'I am knowledgeable,' 'I am virtuous,' and others' respect, one becomes arrogant and conceited. Faults grow silently, but practitioners still do not notice it. Therefore, one must recognize one's own faults and seek a way to eliminate them. If you want to correct these faults, you must first examine yourself. How to examine? I have entered the Buddhist gate, people call me a practitioner, I myself admit to being a practitioner, and I engage in hearing, thinking, and meditating. What motivation is driving this? How was it done before? How is it being done now? If you know that the rest of your life is coming to an end, where do you place your mind? Observing in this way, the mind will fall into a dilemma. If you are a bad practitioner, then everything you have done in the past, are doing now, and will do in the future is for the happiness and fame of this life. Hearing, thinking, and meditating in this way will become meaningless. Thinking in this way, you will not attain Buddhahood through practice, nor will you attain the fruit of a Shravaka or Pratyekabuddha. Therefore, you will not attain the happiness of gods and humans, and you will not be sure whether you will have happiness in your old age, and it is very likely that you will not. Because you have not noticed that the antidote has become ineffective, you cannot prevent the arising of karma. If you cannot eliminate the arising of karma, then you cannot prevent the suffering of the result. This is like a policy that does not harm the enemy, or like a policy that turns against the enemy, helping the strength of the opposing forces. It is like medicine turning into poison, not only not bringing benefits, but bringing harm. Similarly, although Dharma is used as an antidote to afflictions, it does not play a role in the antidote, but instead falls into afflictions again. This is just a nominal practitioner, not a real practitioner. The Prajnaparamita Sutra says: 'Wandering off the path and going astray is the work of demons.' What is the root of these faults? It is the desire for happiness and fame in old age. Where does that come from? It is from cherishing the self.

Since it arises from the ground, in order to refute self-grasping, one must generate the wisdom that realizes selflessness. Having aroused the mind with the desire to attain perfect enlightenment, with the wisdom that realizes all phenomena as empty and selfless, one should know all favorable and unfavorable circumstances as friends on the path. One should abide in the meaning of emptiness and selflessness, and in the post-meditation period, one should train in the manner of appearance without inherent existence, like an illusion. For all phenomena from form to omniscience, from the aspect of appearance, they are conventional truth, and from the aspect of emptiness, they are ultimate truth, speaking of the nature abiding in the manner of non-duality. All Buddhas of the three times have also practiced this and realized it, therefore abandoning all that should be abandoned, and manifesting the wisdom of realization. This meaning of non-duality is not only the exclusive property of the Buddhas, nor is it something we cannot possess. All phenomena are equal in non-duality. The Buddhas also did not seek it from elsewhere. Having understood such a meaning, by meditating without distraction, the yidam will not abandon you in the future. By realizing the emptiness of fame, the desire for fame will subside. Because of not wavering and not moving due to the cause of unfavorable thoughts, the thief of conceptual thought will not enter the mind. Because the root of qualities grows from this, the fault of being top-heavy and bottom-light will not occur. By this alone, the power of virtue is perfected, therefore one will not lose the protection of the Dharma. By realizing that all favorable and unfavorable circumstances are of one taste in emptiness, one will not differentiate between what should be taken and what should be abandoned. There is no need to wait for future Dharma and old age, because one can experience and enjoy the true meaning from now on. Therefore, by cutting off attachment to the three, preparation, main practice, and subsequent practice, all suffering will be transformed into the path. If even so, one cannot integrate the antidote into one's mindstream, then give up. Although the Buddha and the Guru said that all phenomena appear without inherent existence, the wisdom that realizes this has not arisen in one's mindstream. One has not understood the meaning of "the aggregates and sound should not be regarded as other." All the Dharma activities one does have become tools for this life. Let alone the true benefit of such Dharma, one cannot even attain higher realms. You cannot accomplish the Dharma, so...
