Not interrupting the lineage, not abandoning sentient beings. The four things to be known are: the downfall and the image of the downfall, and the non-downfall and the image of the non-downfall. The three things to be abandoned are: discouragement, laziness, and fear of the faults of samsara. The six obstacles to be abandoned are: the four sides of black karma, relying on bad friends, being jealous, holding grudges in the continuum, and discouraging others. Always rejoicing in inferiority. In terms of favorable conditions, the four aspirations of a noble person are: aspiring to the fruit of enlightenment, aspiring to learn the path, aspiring to fulfill the hopes of sentient beings, and aspiring to benefit others. The three obstacles to wisdom for oneself are: not liking to listen, being distracted when thinking, and being lazy when meditating. The faults of harming others: others do not trust in behavior, there is no benefit during the main practice, applying to non-dharma, and combining on the wrong path of the subsequent path. In terms of the cause of non-decline: the cause of non-decline in this life is three kinds of mindfulness, the cause of non-decline in the next life is three kinds of means, and the cause of non-decline in both is five kinds of desire. The first is: the benefits of arising, the faults of decline, and remembering that it is difficult to obtain. The second is: performing the seven-branch offering in the three times, praying to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and abandoning demonic activities. The third is: generating desire for sentient beings, generating desire for dharma, generating desire for bodhicitta, generating desire for good friends, and generating desire for the Buddha. The cause of increase is to learn the four white dharmas and to learn the four immeasurables. The first is not to lie, to combine others with the Mahayana, to generate the thought of a teacher for the Bodhisattva, and to generate superior intention for sentient beings. The generation stage and the trainings have been explained. The twenty-two kinds of mind generation for those with dull faculties are: namely earth, gold, moon, fire, treasure and the source of jewels, sea, vajra, mountain, medicine, good friend, wish-fulfilling jewel, sun, song, king, treasury and highway, riding, decorated water and, musical instrument, river, clouds, with these twenty-two aspects. Thus it is said. This has three meanings, namely armor-like mind generation, entering-like mind generation, and after

Of the mind of enlightenment. The first is the mind of enlightenment that possesses aspiration, thought, and higher intention. The second is the practice like fire, up to the beautiful song. The third is the mind of enlightenment like a king, up to like a cloud. The first has two aspects: relating to the person and relating to the Dharma. The first, aspiration, is: aspiring to the virtuous friend. If one has aspiration, faith, and devotion to the virtuous friend, all benefits arise from relying on him. As stated in the Sutra Collection: "All qualities arise from relying on the virtuous friend." The reason for establishing this with reasoning is: the virtuous friend is like an eye, looking at all the afflictions and thoughts in the student's mind, and seeing which antidote is appropriate. Then he sees whether the student accepts the Dharma or not. Then he sees whether the Dharma is integrated or not. Then he sees whether it can be transformed or not. Then he sees whether the ground is purified or not. The virtuous friend is like armor. If one wears armor on the body, weapons cannot penetrate it. Similarly, if one has devotion and aspiration to the virtuous friend, afflictions cannot penetrate. The virtuous friend is like a guide who has no experience of the path. When traveling on a long, desolate plain with no experience of the path, if there is no guide, there is a danger of returning to the original place or going nowhere. Therefore, a guide is needed to show the way. Similarly, if there is no virtuous friend, one will fall into the lower realms or go astray. Therefore, the virtuous friend prevents these and guides the way to the state of omniscience. The virtuous friend is like a ferryman who saves from fear. Just as a ferryman saves from the fear of enemies, on the way to the state of omniscience, there will be enemies of afflictions and thoughts. Therefore, the virtuous friend acts as a ferryman to save from these fears. The virtuous friend is like a sword in the darkness. Just as a sword can cut through all things, the virtuous friend can also cut through all the afflictions and thoughts of the student. The virtuous friend is like a wish-fulfilling jewel.
